Like most artists who paint daily, I go through massive amounts of paint, especially white. I don’t know if you’ve checked paint prices lately, but a small 4 oz jar of artist quality white paint is $12 (and, this price is super cheap if you compare it to my favorite brand of oil paints). I can easily go through a jar of white in a day or two. Or, in an hour if I use it to mix other colors.
I’ve written about this multiple times before, but I have several different brands of paint in my studio, and each one is a different quality and price. If you want to read more about buying paint on a budget, you’ll find the posts here and here.
I still use artist quality paint if I’m going to sell a painting. But, if I’m just messing around, PLAYing in my art journal, I usually use the cheapest paint I can find. I actually prefer low quality paint because then I’m not afraid to experiment and I can use as much of it as I’d like. Not that I’m scared of using expensive paint (I was when I first started painting many years ago), but you get what I’m saying..cheap paint is freeing.
A month or so ago, as an experiment, I bought a gallon of Glidden white latex wall paint from Walmart for only $9.48. I liked it so much I just bought another one.
It’s a little watery, not sure if I’d actually use it on the wall because it will probably drip..but, for what I need it for, it’s perfect. It’s about the same consistency as Golden fluids..maybe slightly thicker, but waaaay less money. I highly recommend it.
Another artist tip:
I stand my art journals up overnight to let the pages dry.
This helps prevent the pages from sticking together
especially if I’ve used a lot of gel medium to glue down collage paper.

No 4 made me lol. I’ll be skipping that one. No, thanks. haha!! I’ll never be that bored.
