Ali MacGraw
oil portrait painting
WIP
I worked some more on the Ali Macgraw oil portrait painting I started a few weeks ago. I wasn’t going to post this photo because it’s kinda blurry, but then decided I actually like the blur because I can’t see the canvas showing through in this photo.
Ali MacGraw
oil portrait painting
work in progress
I wasn’t happy with this painting when I put it up on the drying shelf. I think I might have overworked it, and in doing so, I lost some of the essence of her features. I’m not sure if the painting looks like her anymore. Maybe it never did? It’s hard to judge my own work sometimes..other than being highly critical, I mean. Being negative about everything I paint is easy for my brain, and I never know when to scream “SHUT UP, ALREADY” or listen. lol
As I said before, I’m struggling with this portrait, mostly because I didn’t prep the canvas board ahead of time. The canvas showing through is so distracting to my eye. There’s really nothing I can do about that, but there are some flaws I see in these photos that I can try to fix. I’ll probably sit with it for another hour or two, and then I’ll call this one finished. I have a lot of time in this one already, and I’m ready to move on.
