Watercolor portrait painting
in my art journal
I don’t use prompts for my art journals often. I’ve been doing this so long, I tend to open to a blank page, and dive in head first without giving it any thought.
It’s taken me a while to get completely comfortable with art journaling, tho. I remember years ago not knowing what to do with my journal, so I would avoid creating anything for days at a time. The blank page can be intimidating, especially if you’re just starting out.
If you’re having trouble knowing where to start, one trick you can do is to prep your pages a head of time, so the page isn’t stark white. Then, you can look for little hints within the paint, and begin there. Sometimes I’ll see a blob that looks like an eye or lips, and I’ll roll with it. I wrote about prepping pages in my notebook art journal a couple months ago.
You can also check out these art journal prompts. This site has lots of good art journaling info, and it might spark an idea if you’re struggling.
I hope you’re having a lovely holiday weekend.
I’m having a 30% sale on original paintings in my eBay store. It ends Tuesday at midnight, so you’ll have to hurry to get this awesome deal. If you prefer shopping on Etsy, I also have a labor day weekend sale going on there.
