It probably goes without saying, but I live and breathe art. I’m also an avid reader, and I constantly seek out articles and websites about art, and artists. I also read everything I can about running a small business – probably too much. I’ve decided to collect the most memorable, intriguing, thought provoking, helpful, and perhaps in some cases, unusual sites I come across, and share them here on my blog every Monday.
1. Illegal art installation in abandoned Brooklyn subway station. If you want to see it, you’ll have to run down live train track. I think I’ll have to settle for seeing the photos.
2. The World’s Longest Invoice – “71% of freelancers struggle to get paid. The amount of income lost is astounding — but no one talks about it. Are you holding a suitcase full of IOU’s?“
I’ve written about my own struggles before, and how non-payment for a commissioned painting ended a friendship. I wonder what sort of price tag I could put on the friendship? Eh, looking back, it wasn’t worth much. If it hadn’t fallen apart when it did, it probably would have hurt me more in the long run.
3. Actress Bullied Over Birthmark Turns Her Flaw Into Art – aww..she is such a beautiful girl. Kids can be so mean.
This resonated with me because I was born with a birthmark on the back of my leg. I had it surgically removed when I was in my mid 20s, not for cosmetic reasons, but because my doctor said it could become cancerous. I kinda miss it because it was a part of me, y’know? We shouldn’t be ashamed of how we were born, and we shouldn’t let anyone body shame us.
4. Sydney artist, Graham Hoete, who painted this Prince mural is looking for sponsors, and a wall, so he can paint a similar one in Prince’s hometown. It’s absolutely stunning, don’t you think? Wow!
5. What the rich used to look like (in paintings)
