Black & white gouache portrait painting

I painted this one a couple months ago using gouache, and acrylic paint. The first few photos are work in progress shots. 

The lack of color instantly gave this portrait a serious, intense expression, so I just went with it. 

There are only two styles of portrait painting;
the serious and the smirk.
