Remember the problem I said I had with filming videos because I gave my video camera away, and my dslr camera lcd window doesn’t swing out like a video camera. If I set the tripod on the table like I used to, there’s no way I can tell how far I’m zoomed in or even if the camera pointed right. Well! I found the answer to that little problem with this horizontal arm for my tripod. I can keep the tripod on the floor where I can see the lcd screen, and extend the camera out over the table. Sooo cool!! I ordered one, and it was delivered last week, which means I have started making painting videos again. I’m not sure how much time I have to put into it, but I might be able to do one a week. We’ll see. No promises, but I thought it would be a way to keep me active in my art journals again, which I wrote about struggling with earlier this week. And, I’m thisclose to finishing 3 books that I have been working on now for months, and I really want to get them done. I need to take photos of each one, and upload them here. I just realized I don’t have any of my art journals on my site, so I have to fix that.
Please note: if the horizontal arm is anything you’d be interested in, just be forewarned. If your camera is heavy, it will tip the tripod over. I think the trick is to not extend the arm too far, and use a 55mm lens or anything with the least amount of weight. Large lens will make it topple over, and smash your camera into the table..unless you sandbag your tripod, which I am considering doing just to make it more secure.
Sun Earth Moon
I’ve had a jar of Golden fiber paste on my shelf for years now. When I bought it, I was painting mainly portraits, and fiber paste was a bit too textured for my taste. When I’m painting portraits, I like a smoother surface to paint on. I’ve probably said it a million times, but I don’t like painting directly on canvas. I usually prep my canvas with Golden molding paste or Blick’s modeling paste, and sand it so it’s smooth. Then, I gesso it three coats. It’s a lot of work, but worth it to get the look I prefer.
I’ve been in the mood to paint abstracts lately, and I thought of the fiber paste. What a way to start out with some great texture. No sanding needed, either. You just spread it on, and let dry. I gessoed each one 3 times, as usual. I’m so happy to finally find a good use for the paste. I used the entire jar, and need to buy more.
This is my favorite one, so far. I also painted a couple blue, and green ones similar to this one, which will be available soon. This one is a 16×20, and it’s titled Sun Earth Moon, and it’s available for purchase here.
Art journal Wednesday – new work
I don’t know what it is, but I’m having these big starts and long stops with my art journals lately. Many days go by, and I don’t even think of them, never crack one open, even though one or two are usually sitting right in plain sight on my work table. Then, all of a sudden, I open one up, I being to paint, and I can’t stop. It will go on for hours or days sometimes. I’ll get up the next morning, and rush to my art journal because I can’t get enough. And, then boom, I forget all about them again. I’m not sure why this is happening, but it’s been going on for 6 or 8 months now, which is why I’ve been posting photos of my art journals on Wednesdays for a few months now. I thought it would keep me in better practice of using them, and it does. Wednesday comes around pretty fast, tho, and for the past couple weeks I’ve been posting shots of my old journals. This week, the art is all new. It’s good to be back.
Birdy on her head, rain on mine
Ahh, new paint knives still in the wrappers. These are so sharp, I cut my hand on one the other day. I finally understood why you can’t take them on a plane, although it would still be quite difficult to do any real damage with one.

It has been raining here for the past 6 weeks or so. We’ve only seen the sun 4 or 5 days in that time, today being one of them. The sun isn’t going to last long. They’ve already put clouds in the forecast for the rest of the day, when just a few hours ago it said bright sun all day. We’re back to rain tomorrow for the next 10 days, according to the forecast right now.
My thoughts are with all the people in Texas who have experienced flooding. Some of the stories I’ve read are so sad. Lives have been lost. My heart goes out to everyone there.
Love a good mystery

When you come right down to it, all you have is yourself.
Yourself is a sun with a thousand rays in your belly.
The rest is nothing.

I’ve had this 12×12 canvas sitting on my work table for a while now, and I still don’t know what I’m going to do with it. Will it be a floral or abstract? Or maybe..a portrait? Will I use acrylics or oils? Will I cover it with collage paper or modeling paste before I start to paint? hm..it’s still a mystery to me, but it’s okay. I love a good mystery.

I have no idea what I was saying or thinking.
Big Red Fred after his health scare a couple weeks ago. On Mother’s Day, Greg and I took him to the ER vet to be put to sleep because we thought he had a stroke. He couldn’t stand or walk, and he was throwing up. We couldn’t get an appointment until 5pm. I cried all day. Turns out it was vertigo, so we brought him back home with us. Whew!! Silly boy!! He’s fine now..back to his hyper self. :)))))

Sweet Pea and Harold
The cats are the only ones in this house who have a table to eat on. We have to keep the food up high or else Big Red Fred gets into it, and the cat food really messes with his intestines. You don’t want to know what happens after he eats it. So, we gave the cats the dining room table, and we eat at our desks, usually.
