I remember when I was a kid, my mother’s sisters would get together and give each other a perm. I loved those days. Everyone laughing, and feeling so pretty with brand new curls. I kinda (ya think?!) exaggerated the curls and poofed out their hair a bit in this painting. I think it adds humor to the piece.

I’ve been taking an online poetry class from Penn State for 5 weeks now. This is one of the poems that I really enjoyed reading. For some reason, it reminded me of this Mother and Baby Boy painting I did last year, probably because of the first line. I thought it was unusual that I dressed the mother in a long gray coat, yet there are flowers growing up along the wall. I like art that you can’t explain with words.

Speaking of poetry, I started reading about e.e. cummings the other day, and found out he died in the same hospital as I was born, in North Conway, NH. Not the same year, he passed before I was born, but to think he knew that area, and had a farm there has me in a state of awe and wonder. How did I not know this?? All these years, I’ve read his poetry, and I didn’t know we have a little town in NH in common? It makes me wonder how very little I know about anything in life. sigh.

My mother died in the same hospital three years ago. It’s a small, small world. Now I want to read everything I can get my hands on about Mr. Cummings, but my poetry class marches on quickly. I have been struggling to keep up, so I’ll have to leave e.e. for when I have more time.

I can now say I’m a daily painter. The past 30 days have made a believer out of me, so I’m not about to stop now!! Can’t stop!! I’m hooked. Do stop by now and again to check up on me, yeah? 🙂 It’s been a lot of fun!! Thanks so much for the comments, and for keeping me motivated. I hope you were able to complete the challenge, too. 
 
If you want to make collages of your work like I did, the program I downloaded to do it is called Foter. You can also edit your photos with it, and make cards. I like it a lot, and will probably make monthly collages like this from now on. It’s a great way to keep track of all the work I accomplish in a month.

Well, this is it! The last day of the 30 paintings in 30 days, and 29 faces challenge. It’s over! I painted more than 30 paintings, and those will be coming up in future blog posts. 🙂 I feel pretty darn good. Thanks everyone for all the comments, and I hope we’ll remain friends. I’ll still be blogging. I’ll still be painting every day. So, I hope I’ll be seeing you around.

The sun was streaming through my studio window on a hot fall day (is it really suppose to be 90F at the end of September?), and the more I worked on this painting, the more I could feel the sun shining down on me.  It was suppose to be a photo booth painting, which I used a reference photo for..at first. Then, it completely shifted. I wanted to girl in the painting to feel the sunshine as strongly as I was at the moment. So, I painted in purple sunglasses, and lots of sunlight. Okay, this painting has a funny history. She started out a girl, turned into a boy, and ended up a girl at the end. I love how paintings transform as you work on them. Gender changes are pretty normal for my paintings. I never know how it’s going to turn out, and until the painting is completely finished. I often ask my painting, “Are you a boy or a girl?” I wait a few seconds for an answer, then I pick up the brush, and keep painting. Ah, she’s a girl! Only two days left of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days and 29 Faces Challenge. Wow! I’ll be sad to see it end. It’s funny, I almost didn’t do either challenge. I was so nervous putting my link up on Leslie’s blog the first week. I would literally get a little sick to my stomach. I felt very intimidated. There are a lot of very talented artists doing the challenge, and I was worried I wouldn’t be good enough. With 29 Faces, I only had to add my link once, so that was easier. 🙂
 
By week two, I was adding my link to Leslie’s blog every morning like a pro. haha I got over feeling so shy, and inadequate. I think it’s because so many artists commented here, and it made me stop doubting myself. I began to relax, settle in, and get comfortable.
