things i like
list continues..
How things have changed..
1. I’m a cloudy day type of gal these days. I was a summer girl back then, but the heat and sun started to really bother me. I break out hives/rash, get a headache, and feel nauseated.
2. Water beds..just no!
3. I never drink espresso anymore. I’m a weak -mostly decaf- type of coffee drinker now. I have been slowly cutting back my caffeine intake over the years. My husband drinks espresso almost everyday, but it doesn’t even look or smell appealing to me anymore. Waaaay too strong.
4. I don’t paint portraits anymore. And, now that I’ve said that, I’ll want to paint one. ha!
5. It used to be my favorite channel, but HGTV isn’t worth turning on these days. I was so excited to get it with my Sling subscription, but I’ve barely watched it. :/ It seems like there are only two shows on the Network now, and they play repeat marathons over and over again. That husband/wife show (Fixer Upper) is sooo annoying. They grate on my nerves, especially the husband. Errrg!! What happened to all the good shows I used to watch??
6. I listen to asmr, sleep hypnosis and/or chanting videos every night before I go to sleep, which is a form of meditation, I guess..but I can’t sit still and meditate without being guided these days. I get frustrated fast because my mind is so busy.
7. Skip the ceremony and go straight to the cake. hahahaha Nothing has changed there..only everything. I can’t eat cake anymore, unless it’s made with rice flour, and it would have to be unsweetened cake because I’m in the process of getting clean from sugar. It’s been 3 weeks on Monday, and I’m holding strong!! So, yeah..no cake for me.
8. I like how the list ends on tiny flowers because that’s what I’m obsessed with these days, and I hope that never changes.

I found a list of “things I like” I wrote back in the day, and thought it was funny, so I’m posting it. I need to make lists like this more often. 🙂 Maybe I should do it once a year to mark the new year..it’s fun to look back on and read silly things like this. I crossed out the things that no longer apply.
Funny how things have changed..
1. I probably wouldn’t put the smell of the ocean on my list anymore. Not because I don’t love the smell of it, but because I just wouldn’t think of putting it on my list. I used to live on the east coast near the ocean, but it’s been 17 years. I missed it horribly at first, but I don’t think of the ocean at all anymore. Now when I go anywhere I miss the big open sky, and flat land.
2. FB used to be my go to site. I’d wake up in the morning, excited to get on FB. The constant changes to the site made my love fade pretty quickly. I deactivated my account about a year ago. Now my go to site is my own website, and really, that’s how it should be.
3. I wouldn’t put tofu on the list if I was writing it today..I rarely, if ever, eat it anymore. It started giving me a stomachaches.
4. I don’t burn candles much anymore, especially since adopting the twins (kittens). They’re too wild.
5. Doing spontaneous art..aww, yeah, I don’t do much of that anymore. My artwork is planned out these days, and getting more so with time.
6. I do still love writing haphazardly, but I do it privately these days. Back in the day, I’d post anything and everything. I learned my lesson about doing that..it can and will come back to bite you.
7. I don’t drink wine anymore. Just a sip or two will give me a massive headache. Food allergies sure are super fun.
There is more to this list, which I’ll post tomorrow. It’s quite long..who knew I liked so many things. 😉

This was newly revised, and ready to ship to your home today.
Artists are visionaries. We routinely practice a form of faith, seeing clearly and moving toward a creative goal that shimmers in the distance – often visible to us, but invisible to those around us.

I’ve been wanting to post this painting for a couple weeks, but I knew I needed to update the photos first. Sooo, yesterday morning I was determined to get this one done finally, but there was only one problem..I couldn’t find the painting. I searched everywhere, which in hindsight was a good thing because it prompted me to get organized. The entire upstairs got a good cleaning, and I now have my collection of finished paintings all in one place. I can easily locate them when needed.
I didn’t take photos of the boxed up paintings, not much to see there, really, but I did capture this huge pile of shipping materials that now sits in the corner of my office. I probably should tell you that my house was built in 1920 or there about. I don’t think people had a lot of stuff back then, like we do now. There’s only one closet in the house, which is downstairs. It’s a nice big walk in, but it’s pretty full. If I had a closet up here, I’d have all this crap stored away, out of sight. I don’t have that luxury, tho. It’s a bit of an eyesore, but it’s my office. Nobody will have to look at it everyday, except me.
Most of these are brand new boxe$$$, and a few recycled ones that I hold onto in case I need a different size than normal. You never know when someone might buy 6 paintings all at once, and I like to combine shipping when I’m able. I also have huge boxes full of bubble envelopes in different sizes, and stiff cardboard envelopes in various sizes. I keep some of these out in my shipping room in the cabinet, and the extras in my office. I also have a huge stack of new flattened boxes behind my office door for the large paintings, and a gigantic roll of bubble wrap under my workbench in my studio. When I got it all sorted, I realized I have several hundred of dollars in shipping materials. I literally have a package available for every size painting I paint. Also, what isn’t pictured here are all the Priority mail boxes in different sizes on the other side of the room. I’m prepared, y’all. If I get an order today, no matter what it is, I can ship it out without a problem.
shipping room
In the process of moving stuff around, I decided to make a separate shipping room again out in the hallway. The sitting area I created out there last year wasn’t being used. I don’t know why I thought I’d lounge around while I’m working. Never happened. I moved my long table out there (had to take the legs off to fit it through the office door, what a pain) and shelves full of yet more shipping supplies. Voila! Shipping room/writing desk area. My office looks huge now that I moved all this stuff out, and a lot less cluttered. Whew.
Long story short, I now have everything in its place, and the stored paintings are labeled by sizes, and either marked MK or KJ depending on which shop they belong to. I don’t think I’ve ever been more organized, and it feels great. Btw, I found the painting I was looking for in the process.

I think it’s because of the new year, but I had the urge to make some changes here on my website. First off, I changed how my subscriber emails are sent out, so if it looks different to you, there is no need to email me about it. I already know, and I changed it on purpose, which I’ll explain in an upcoming post..whenever I get time to write it.
Secondly, a new profile pic has been uploaded..aww, Sweet Pea and me. Every time I see that photo, I’m going to imagine her purring loudly, and that will make me happy. 🙂
Last but not least, I decided to close comments here on my blog. I’ve actually been thinking about doing this for sometime now, probably about a year, but obviously, it wasn’t an easy decision to make. I’ve tried to write about it several times, but never could get the words right. Instead, a quick Bing search found some bloggers who said it better than me, such as this post written by Seth Godin. He seems to have a way with words that I don’t. Here’s what he wrote..
I think comments are terrific, and they are the key attraction for some blogs and some bloggers. Not for me, though. First, I feel compelled to clarify or to answer every objection or to point out every flaw in reasoning. Second, it takes way too much of my time to even think about them, never mind curate them. And finally, and most important for you, it permanently changes the way I write. Instead of writing for everyone, I find myself writing in anticipation of the commenters. I’m already itching to rewrite my traffic post below. So, given a choice between a blog with comments or no blog at all, I think I’d have to choose the latter. So, bloggers who like comments, blog on. Commenters, feel free. But not here. Sorry.
I also found this blog post by Kelly Rae Roberts about the pressure of writing for an audience, and why she closed her comments. You’ll have to scroll about half way down the page to read it.
Like Seth, I think comments are great (for the most part), but, he’s right..I always have the commenters in mind as I’m writing my posts. Unfortunately, when you approach blogging this way, day after day, you begin to lose little pieces of yourself in the process. It starts to be more like “what will they say?” instead of “what will I say?” Like Kelly Rae, I want this space to be my sanctuary. It is my daily art/life journal after all. If I allow any stranger with internet access to weigh in with their thoughts and opinions about my online business, and personal life, it doesn’t feel like a sanctuary to me.
I hope you understand and respect my decision. Please note that if you ever want to send me a private message, the contact form is available here on my site. I usually get back to everyone without 24 hours.

It almost seems cruel of me to post a Saturday painting on a Monday morning, but alas, that is the kind of meanie I am. Monday is my favorite day of the week, so I’m extra mean. 😉 I have it no easier than you, tho, really. I have still have a billion hours of office work facing me today..about 200 images that need editing in Photoshop. I also fell asleep at 9pm last night, and woke up at 12:30am, and have been up, and working since 2am because I couldn’t go back to sleep. Oh, the weird hours I keep, eh? Well, I had to take all those photos that I’m now editing, so I figured I might as well get up, instead of lying there watching Netflix. Thank goodness for good lighting. I can take photos any time of day or night.
Happy Monday!! Let’s keep that coffee pot fired up!! We’re all going to need it today.

Remember July? The blazing hot sun, and uncomfortably hot temperatures seem pretty far away, especially if you’re on the east coast, and got blasted with 20+ inches of snow. I feel for you, yet at the same time, I wish it had happened here. Oops, my jealousy is showing through. All we seem to get this year is freezing rain, which we’ll be waking up to tomorrow morning. Nothing screams “accidents waiting to happen” more than freezing rain on the freeways on a Monday morning. Be careful out there, guys.
