I love getting new art supplies!! I got this stuff a couple weeks ago, and thought I’d share it with you. I couldn’t go wrong with the 2 pack mixed media paper. One will fit great in my bag, and I can take it anywhere with me. The larger one will stay in my studio. I haven’t opened either one yet because I still have several art journals I need to finish first. It’s killing me, tho..I want to rip open that package.
General’s multi pastel compressed chalk
This is my first time trying these pastels, so I’ll have to let you know how I like them. Still haven’t opened the package, as of today.
Blick Master Gesso
I didn’t use to think I had a preference when it came to gesso, but I’ve changed my mind. Lately, all I buy is Blick Master Gesso because I found with the cheaper Blick gessos the consistency was different every time I bought it. Sometimes it was too watery, and runny. A few others left a slimy feeling on the brush. And, other times, it would be clumpy. I got tired of the guessing game, so stopped buying the cheap stuff. I’ve bought probably 4 or 5 of these big jugs now, and it is the same consistency every time. So, I’m sticking with it, even if it is a more expensive.
These are hard pastels to use in my art journals. I threw the packaging away, so I’m not sure what brand they are. Also, the broken ones are my fault because I dropped the package on the floor. Oops!
I have pretty much disliked this painting (before) since I painted it, so last week it went back on my work table. Now I love it!! It was so dark and deary before.

I listened to this interview with Rob Kalin, the founder of Etsy, on NPR. Thought I would share it here.
Can I just say that I miss the days when Rob was running the site, and that I haven’t been excited the direction Etsy has been heading? There used to be honest-to-goodness handmade content on the site, and ONLY handmade at that time. Since Rob was fired, things have changed A LOT. Now, your guess is as good as mine if something was really made by hand or not. Look at a listing, and flip a coin, I say. A lot of top selling shops claim they’re handmade, but it’s pretty obvious they’re buying their items from alibaba. It gets me that they buy items for 20 cents, and sell them for $30+. Now that’s a way to make a profit, eh?
I keep seeing buyers complaining about the lack of real handmade items in the Etsy forums. It’s a sad reality that Etsy is no longer handmade, even though they still claim they are. I can assure you MY stuff is hand painted by me, and only me, not by a machine or in a sweatshop in China.
Because I don’t like having all my eggs in one basket, I recently started offering my work on Ebay again. You can also visit my shop here on my website. If at any time you see a painting you like, but you don’t want to purchase it through Etsy or Ebay, please know you can purchase it directly through me.
