I painted the sides black, and then changed my mind. I chose a creamy, buttery, light yellow that I mixed myself instead. It’s almost white, but not quite.
Tell me, why is it every single time I type “cottage chic”, I type “cottage chick” instead? My brain, it needs help, I swear.

My camera was all kinds of wonky while shooting this painting. Some photos are dark, and some are too light. I’m going to put them up anyway because it’s day 16 of 30 in 30, and time is moving along. There’s no looking back now.

Number 8 is the most powerful one, imo. I know people who think about creating every day, but they don’t turn their the thoughts into action. Something is in the way, blocking them. Perhaps it’s fear. Being afraid that what they will create won’t come out how it looks in their thoughts, maybe? I’m not sure.
I’m quite the opposite. I act long before I’ve had time to think about it. That way, there’s no image in my mind that I have to live up to, and I’m free to do whatever I want in the moment. I honestly have no idea what I’m going to do when I walk into my studio. I guess there are basics, like first I decide whether I want to use oils or acrylics, and pick a color that’s in front of me. I choose a palette knife, but from there, I never know what will happen. It’s a split second decision, and boom..I’m off and running with it. I don’t give myself time to change my mind.

I’ve been feeling under the weather for a couple weeks now, pretty much since the challenge started. I don’t have a cold or the flu, exactly, although at times I think I’m coming down with something. It’s more like I’m tired, run down, and feeling blah. So, I’ve been struggling to find something to add here below the painting, but I keep coming up short. Sometimes, it’s better not to force things. Tomorrow will be another day.

Yup, but still, being on the receiving end of a reject letter really stinks.
On the bright side, at least they wrote me back, and didn’t leave me hanging, right?
Oh, well..
O N W A R D!!
5×7 Acrylic Impasto Palette Knife Painting
Goldfinch – Bird Series No 26
Available for purchase here
I don’t paint many 5x7s. When I was painting portraits, it felt like an awkward size to fit a face, but things have changed. I no longer paint portraits, so I bought 100 5x7s a couple weeks ago. I was thinking because of the length, florals will fit better on 5x7s, rather than on the 4x4s. The first thing I ended up painting was a bird, tho. That’s always the way it goes..the muse is the one in charge, never me. This little goldfinch was calling out to me to be painted, and so I had no other choice, I obeyed.
Look what I got in the mail Saturday. 🙂 My advance copy of Art Journal Kickstarter. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I did thumb through it, and look what I found on page 64 and 65. A couple pages from my art journal, which I made last winter. Pretty darn cool, huh? You can pick up a copy for yourself on Amazon.
Day 12 of 30/30
