I remember when I was a kid, my mother’s sisters would get together and give each other a perm. I loved those days. Everyone laughing, and feeling so pretty with brand new curls. I kinda (ya think?!) exaggerated the curls and poofed out their hair a bit in this painting. I think it adds humor to the piece.

I’ve been taking an online poetry class from Penn State for 5 weeks now. This is one of the poems that I really enjoyed reading. For some reason, it reminded me of this Mother and Baby Boy painting I did last year, probably because of the first line. I thought it was unusual that I dressed the mother in a long gray coat, yet there are flowers growing up along the wall. I like art that you can’t explain with words.

Speaking of poetry, I started reading about e.e. cummings the other day, and found out he died in the same hospital as I was born, in North Conway, NH. Not the same year, he passed before I was born, but to think he knew that area, and had a farm there has me in a state of awe and wonder. How did I not know this?? All these years, I’ve read his poetry, and I didn’t know we have a little town in NH in common? It makes me wonder how very little I know about anything in life. sigh.

My mother died in the same hospital three years ago. It’s a small, small world. Now I want to read everything I can get my hands on about Mr. Cummings, but my poetry class marches on quickly. I have been struggling to keep up, so I’ll have to leave e.e. for when I have more time.

Day 24 of the 30 day painting challenge, and I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s been going so great, tho. I’m not getting tired. I could keep going at this pace for a while, and maybe I will. Painting every day is something I did anyway, but blogging, I wasn’t so great at doing every single day. Now I see I can do it. There shouldn’t be an excuse not to, right? haha 
 
Artist Kathleen Coy painted and blogged every weekday for a year. She suggests trying it for at least a month, which I’ve almost done. I think a year would get tiresome. But, the thought of having all those paintings finished..ahhh!! I really want to try it!! Dare I? Only 11 more months to go now. :)))

Day 21, and this is a little plea to everyone on Blogger using the captcha code on their blogs. Please please please shut it off!! I cannot tell you how aggravating it is to try to leave a comment, and have to squint and try to make out the warped letters and numbers in the code. It is sooooo annoying!!! Most of the time, I leave without saying a word because it’s just too frustrating to even try. If you don’t want spam comments, then approve each one by hand, like I do. It’s not that big of a deal. You’ll get an email, and you simply click on a link, and it approves the comment. Simple. Please, I beg you. Be kind to your readers and turn it off. I thank you, and so does every other commenter who tries to leave a comment on your blog. You’ll more than likely get more comments. Nobody wants to mess with that stupid code.

How to shut off the captcha code:
1. click on design at the right top of the page
2. click on settings
3. click on posts and comments
4. Under who can comment I have selected “anyone”
5. Comment Moderation “Always” is checked
6. Show word verification, tick “NO”

That’s it! That’s all you have to do, and it will make it soooo much easier to comment on your blog. Thank you kindly.

Something a little different for today, a girl with a bird painting! I’m having a little trouble staying with my theme of photo booth paintings, but what difference does it really make? I’m still painting..every day. 

If you’re just tuning in, I’m doing the 30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge by Leslie Saeta, and Ayala Art‘s 29 Faces Challenge. I choose a theme to narrow it down even more, collaged photo booth paintings. It’s not a hard set rule, and when I get a little bored, I go off in another direction.  

This painting wasn’t completed in one day. I’ve actually been working on it, off and on since February, believe it or not!! I had a hard time making it all come together for some reason. Finally, by adding the stars, it seemed to make sense to me. Now, it’s finished.

On top of doing this 30 day painting challenge, I’m in the middle of building a new website. I haven’t had one for a year now, and I’ve really missed it. But, boy, is it ever a lot of work. whew. It’s really starting to come together, tho, and I LOVE seeing all my artwork in one place. It makes me giddy!!

I’m trying to decide if I keep blogging here or redirect this link over to my new website, and merge Miz Katie with my new site. hm..

The main reason for my new website is because it has my name in the link. My real name. I’ve been debating whether to faze out “Miz Katie” now for a couple years, and use my real name for my work. But, since I’ve gone by the name Miz Katie since 2008, when I started painting full time, I don’t want to just drop it without giving people a chance to adjust to the change. I have a lot of followers who know me as Miz Katie, and it worries me that if I change the name, they might not be able to find me. Redirecting mizkatie.com to my new site would fix that, tho. hm..but then there’s my Etsy shop, and changing the title and link there. It might be too much. I’m going to lose some people in the change, I just know it.

Oh, I don’t know what I’m doing yet, but my new website looks great!! 🙂 Can’t wait to show you when I’m done.

I messed up my neck and back up a few days ago..it’s an old car accident injury that comes back to haunt me, and I’ve been in a lot of pain. Like, pain that made tears run down my face. Yeah. Just lovely. I went to bed early last night, and slept until midnight. I got up and took some Tylenol PM, and went back to sleep. Today, I’m a little better, but I have a feeling by this afternoon I’ll be a hot mess again. 😐 I’m being very careful to not lift anything or turn my head too fast, still..ugh. 
 
I’m still plugging away at the challenges, tho. It takes a lot for me to give up on my art.
