I’ve made some of my art journal pages available as prints. I hope you like them.
Mixed Media Artist - daily painter of portraits, flowers, abstracts and birds
Since the covid numbers continue to rage (800-1000+ new cases a day with jumps to almost 2000 some days), I’m still not leaving the house. I’ve been alternating between working, meditating, watching Buddhist monk videos on YT (this is truly what gets me through the day. Thank you, bhantes for your generous offerings), Netflix and reading.
Recently, I started creating a new outsider art series. My plan for this series is to tap into my imagination, emotions, and spontaneity. I want the pieces to resemble my art journal pages – loose, raw, unpolished, in the moment, sometimes playful, and fun. Most of all, I want each one to tell a story, and be relatable to someone out there. You’ll have to read the descriptions and/or titles to find out more about each one.
Her eyebrows say it all.
She’s weary.
She’s tired of it.
She’s wants that rascal gone for good.
Within these pieces are glimpses into moments of my private life, and/or those around me. Sometimes I get ideas from a book I’m listening to while I’m painting or maybe something I saw on the screen last night resonated with me.

Up Your Nose With a Rubber Hose
haha..I haven’t heard this saying since I was a young kid out on the playground, but it all of a sudden popped into my head the other day while I was painting this piece. I LOVE when stuff like that happens.
These are all ORIGINAL pieces, not prints. Bidding starts at $15.00 on most of them. Right now, I’m working on 4×4 chipboard. I don’t love the size, but I’m trying to use up a stack of chipboard I have lying around. When the chipboard is gone, I’m going to switch to construction and watercolor paper with slightly bigger sizes.

Deep Blue Quiet
Oil Portrait Painting
Available here
It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 2 months since I updated my blog. I appreciate everyone who reached out to me about my last post. Thank you. I’m still painting/working, although I haven’t been updating my blog. Deep blue quiet is how I’ve been feeling, so it seems appropriate to post this portrait after taking a long break. If you’re interested in purchasing, you’ll find it here.

What I’m Watching: Optimistic Nihilism May Be the Perfect Cure For This Time
I got the title of this painting from Richard Grannon in the video above.
The Buddha on Amazon Prime – recommended by my son. Thanks, Ry.

Cageyness
acrylic abstract painting
Available here
I painted these abstracts before the quarantine, but I’m calling this one “quarantine art” nonetheless. It’s almost like I had a premonition when I saw people stuck in a little room together in my mind’s eye.
Diversity
Available here
It’s kinda weird because one of my friends had a premonition, also. I remember talking about it long before the quarantine. It’s almost like we both sensed what was going to happen.
Advantage
Available here
I used Bob Burridge’s method of creating abstracts when I painted these, and it was fun. I think I’m going to do another series of them soon.
Popular
Available here
Art should never try to be popular.
The public should try to make itself artistic.

You open a thesaurus or dictionary, close your eyes, open a page, and put your finger on a word. Then create an abstract piece for whatever word you picked.
Frequent
Available here
I liked having a title picked out before creating the painting, so I didn’t have to figure it out later. Sometimes, it takes me forever to choose a title.

Really low prices on these pieces. I’m trying to make my art more affordable during this difficult time, while still being fair to me. I hope they bring happiness, and brighten walls during this crappy time in our lives. xo

What I’m watching: It took a couple tries to finally settle in and watch something all the way through last night.
The Florida Project – I couldn’t get into this one at all, and shut it off after about an hour. The kids were so troubled, loud and bratty..which I guess was the point of the movie, but it wasn’t for me.
The Pianist – This one is 2.5 hours, and that’s at least an hour too long for my short attention span, which I knew going in. I figured I could watch it in two parts, if I liked it. However, it’s a difficult movie to sit through because of the subject matter. All the beatings, explosions, and gunfire got to me, and I couldn’t watch more than an hour of it. Because of the title, I was thinking it was more about his piano playing than a lesson in history. Maybe it finally gets there, but I couldn’t wait any longer. I don’t generally watch violence, war, or horror movies, so this one was not for me.
Whisky – I’m thinking I should stick with quirky International films with subtitles for the rest of the month because they resonate the most with me. I rarely watch one I don’t like. I give this one 5 stars. It was moody, but still made me laugh several times..especially when I found out why it’s titled “Whisky”. LOL Soooo funny!! Loved how raw, real, and convincing the characters were. More like this please, Netflix!!
Hope you had a great weekend. xo

WIP
I’m almost a quarter of the way finished with the 100 oil painting challenge. Well..I actually am more than that now because I paint faster than I blog, but y’know what I’m saying.
This is another one I revised. It was a mixed media acrylic piece, and I decided to re-paint her face & hair with oils.
The only problem with oils is how much darker, and deeper the colors are when compared to acrylics. I don’t notice until I see the oil paintings next to some of my acrylics. I have to remember to go back in and lighten the paintings up, which I did with this one.
What I’m reading: Ecologists Dig Prairie Dogs, And You Should Too – I do! There were some living at my old house, and I absolutely adored them. They’re so fun to watch poke their heads up out of their little holes like wack-a-moles. There has been a big field full of them at one Walmart here for years. Sitting in the car, watching them is the only reason to go to Walmart, imo.
Now, voles are a different issue. I’m gonna have to read about them to see them in a different light because they’re making a mess of my yard, and it’s difficult to mow.
Listening to: Unlocking Us with Brené Brown podcast
What I’m Watching: Swimming Pool – I really enjoy films like these..where you’re never quite sure what the heck you’ve been watching for the past 1.5 hrs. It leaves you wondering, was I deceived through the entire film? lol 5 stars!!
The Last Shaman – This one was interesting. I know some people who have experienced Ayahuasca, and it’s helped them. Others have hated the experience. I don’t think I would ever do it myself, but never say never, as they say.
Artists I’m Admiring: Jennifer Pochinski and Susan Lichtman – I know about them because I’m signed up to Catherine Kehoe‘s newsletter, and she featured them this morning.
They both paint personal, intimate scenes..but somehow they make you (the viewer) feel welcome in the room, like you belong there, and you’re a part of whatever it is going on. Their paintings have a feeling of home..of being in a comfortable surrounding with those you love. That’s the feeling I get, anyway.

So Close Yet So Far
Available here
This is another painting that I’ve had lying around the studio for a few years, which I just revised. I’m pretty sure I painted it during the 365 day painting challenge I did three years ago. Wow..can’t believe it’s been that long. To think I was thisclose to doing another 365 day challenge this year. Thank goodness I talked myself out of it because I would have failed miserably. There’s no way I could have kept up that pace with everything going on, especially in the beginning.
Anyway, I have revised her with oil paint, and she’s available, if you’re interested. Small to large prints are also available here. Also, if you like this size, and style, I just relisted a bunch of them in my Etsy shop.
I hope you have a great weekend. I haven’t decided yet if I’m taking the weekend off or not. I kinda want to because I haven’t had a day off in a while, but we’ll see. I might wait until Monday or Tuesday. Stay safe out there. xo
