This is an older plein air landscape series I created with oil paint and palette knives. I created this series in 2015, back when I was trying to figure out the direction I wanted to take my art.

This series was short lived,
as some often are,
and I’m okay with that.

Don’t get me wrong, I like this series. It was the working outside in the extreme heat, bright sun, and wind with bugs constantly flying into my painting part that wasn’t my cup of tea. It was a great learning experience, tho.

Most of these paintings have layers of texture because I painted them impasto with palette knives. Here’s a close up shot.

I have a box full of these landscapes available, and they’re now up in my eBay store. I hope to have them all listed by the time this posts. I’m also listing some abstract paintings that I found in the box.

I know I said back in August that I was going to paint over these golf paintings, but I decided there are a few that I’d rather offer for sale instead. These are all available on ebay. If you are a golfer or have a loved one who golfs, these would make fabulous birthday or holiday gifts.

These original paintings of a golfers are from a golf series I created to be featured in a book titled Golf Sayings by Bradford Gordon Wheler back in 2013. I’ve revised some of them since then.

These were painted impasto with palette knives on chipboard. The paint is thick, and the knife marks can be seen throughout the painting. They’ve all been varnished to protect from fingerprints and dust.

Bid early! As with most of my eBay auctions, I start the bidding at 50 to 75% off of what I normally charge. However, if I don’t get bids, I increase the prices as the listings near the ending date to discourage last second snipers.

Looking West – revised portrait painting

Last week I wrote about revising this painting titled Looking West. I basically wanted to leave most of the painting as it was, but spiff it up in places.

The background was a dark gray, and while I liked it at the time, I’m going through a more bolder, brighter color stage right now. This red orange is from Golden..I can’t remember the exact name of the color, but it really makes the piece pop, imo. I also changed her shirt color to a yellow green that I mixed a couple weeks ago.

Her forehead looked a bit high, so I brought her hair down over her face to cover it up. I also fixed the collar of her shirt. I’m not sure why I left it so crooked. Maybe I didn’t notice at the time?

This is a mixed media collage painting, which means there are several layers under there. I don’t like painting directly on canvas or canvas panels, so I usually start out by laying down collage papers to create layers or molding paste if I want the surface to be smooth.

All in all, I’m happy with the outcome of this painting. Yes, it’s weird. I like to position my characters at different angles to make my paintings unique, and different. Otherwise..b o r i n g.

Spring has sprung with new floral paintings – time sensitive post

I showed you a stack of these new floral paintings yesterday, but didn’t give you a good look at what I’ve created. I decided since the eBay listings are time sensitive that I’d go ahead and show you them individually.

These are all acrylic mixed media paintings, which I painted with palette knives. They are 4×4 inches on chipboard. I will also have some prints available (on the ones I like best) as soon as I’m done editing the photos.

If you’re bored with your surroundings after a long winter, now is the time to get some fresh new paintings up on your wall. What’s even better is you can buy them at extremely affordable prices.

Cutie pies, clouds, art photoblog

Someone on Pinterest asked me if Sweet Pea had her eyes “taken out”, which I think they meant surgically removed because of a health issue. That’s not the case, no. Sweet Pea was born without eyes, and we adopted her when she was just a few months old. She turned 10 years old last month (March 27th). Hard to believe.

Reading: 23 New Behaviors We Picked Up During Quarantine

Since I’ve worked from home many years now, my day-to-day life didn’t change all that much when the quarantine hit. I only could find a couple of these “new” behaviors that I relate to.

No 1..not really. I had trouble sleeping at first, but can’t say my dreams have been vivid overall. Dealing with quarantine brain (no 2) has been a bit tricky, I agree. I’m sure you know what I mean. We’ve all been going through it.

I actually stopped watching sports (no 3) because I’m not into reruns..unless it’s old basketball games from the 90s. Michael Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Rodman, Iverson..yeah, I’ll definitely watch, but I haven’t been.

No 4 – I’ve always worn sweat pants and hoodies.

No 5 – No change. I’ve watched ASMR videos for years.

No 6 – 9: all a no for me.

No 10 – I’ve always gone through spells of staying up late or getting up early..depends on what I have going on.

No 11 – nothing changed for me

No 12 – I’ve always been a DIYer.

No 13 – I did at first, but I’ve been back on my normal intermittent fasting & omad for months now.

No 14 – not much changed

No 15 – I did find a different way to shop, and I prefer having my groceries delivered now. I will keep doing this in the future, even when covid is gone.

No 16 was a huge nope for me. Covid actually taught me what is important in life, and made me realize downtime is the most cherished part of my day. Working around the clock, like I used to, isn’t healthy. I don’t abandon myself like that anymore.

No 17 – I always prepare my own food. Because of food allergies, I can’t eat out anywhere. Those of you complaining nonstop about not being to eat in restaurants..chin up. You will eat out again. Some of us never will, and haven’t been able to for years.

No 19 – Covid has increased my meditation practice for sure. I used to be a casual meditator. I’d go through spells where I’d meditate every day, and then I wouldn’t for a week. I’ve slowly and steadily increased my meditation practice in the past year, and now I meditate 3 to 5 times every day.

No 20 – haven’t thought about it. I don’t have a bucket list.

No 21 & 22 – no change. I’ve always liked puzzles, and I don’t plan meals. I eat the same boring food over and over bc of No 17.

No 23 – Yes..definitely taking care of myself better these days.

I got the idea for this painting after recently looking through my mother’s old photo albums. My aunt had asked me to look for specific photos for her. I didn’t find the photos, but what I did find was scribbled out faces in some of the group photos of the family..of my aunt. LOL My mother had taken a blue ballpoint pen to my aunt’s (her sister) face. Oh, my goodness!!! Talk about awkward, but soooo like my Mom. bahahahaha
