Art & Spirit trailer
a film about Harold Garde
by Dale Schierholt
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might remember I used to write a series called “featured artists”. I think it was something I did weekly for a year or two. Back in April 2017, I wrote about Harold Garde, a well known abstract expressionist artist.
After writing that blog post, film maker Dale Schierholt reached out to me, and told me he was in the process of making a documentary about Harold & his work. Dale graciously allowed me access to the film before it was released to the public. I’m still pinching myself over that. The documentary is available on Dale’s website to rent. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, there’s also a documentary Dale made of Harold from 2009, which is free to watch.
Several of you asked me to keep you updated whenever I had something new to share about Harold. Last week I received an email from Amy, Harold’s daughter, and she let me know that sadly, dear, sweet Harold passed away last year. I have no idea how I missed this because it was all over the news. My heart broke to read her email. This is such a great loss, not only to his family, but the entire world.
Amy sent me an updated link to Harold’s website.
She also let me know there will be an exhibit opening at University of Wyoming Art Museum from January to December – Harold Garde at 100: The Unseen Work.
Also, the family will participating in Scope Art during Art Week Miami – December 5 to 10 with Mills Gallery Orlando.
Amy has added me to a list of people she will update with upcoming events. I will pass that along to you whenever there’s something new to report.

I hate so much to write these words, but RIP dear Harold. I hope you know how much you touched the world, not just with your art, but with your wisdom, big heart & personality. You’ve made me laugh, and you’ve made me cry. I will never forget the impact you’ve had on my life as a fellow artist, and human being. Thank you, sir.
Also, a big thank you to Dale for showing us a slice of Harold’s life through his films, and to Harold’s daughter, Amy, who reached out to me.
