I’m cutting these pages in half, so they’re the same size as the art journal I’ve been using for my morning warm up pages. There are probably lots of others listed for sale by the time this posts. I’m pretty obsessed with painting these right now (it gives me a break from painting custom orders, and other work), so check for more here.
I’m going to keep the prices as low as possible, but still be able to provide a decent piece of artwork. These paintings take me anywhere from an hour to 3 to paint..then I have to photograph them, scan them for prints, edit the photos in Photoshop, and list them. Then there’s the cost of shipping material – envelope, plastic sleeve, shipping label, printer ink, and the actual shipping cost. I love them, tho, so I don’t mind all the work and time involved in each one.
It was time for new ones. The handles on mine are rotting/falling off because I tend to treat them poorly, and leave them sitting in water too long. Oops!!

When I received a recent custom portrait order, I realized I didn’t have any 11×14 inch panels in stock. I think this big pack should last me a while.
If you are interested in commissioning me for a portrait for the holidays, time is running out. I’ll only guarantee delivery in time for Christmas if you order within the next couple of days. After that, I might still be able to get it to you in time, but the price will have to include a rush fee.

Oops! I almost forgot about this one, and I don’t know how it’s possible because I love her sweet connection with the chickadee bird. Aw!

What I’m reading – Everything Is F*cked: A Book About Hope
This book is soooo good. I started reading it last night, and didn’t want to put it down. Can’t wait to get my work done today, so I can read some more. It’s one of those type of books where the author acknowledges the reader, and it’s as if he’s having a casual conversation with you in person.

I’m revising this painting using the Zorn palette. The colors before didn’t really match my style..green, and orange. I’ve always liked orange, but not so much green, especially dark green. This is what it looked like before..
I’ve aged her quite a bit by giving her lines around her mouth..or maybe she’s aged me. lol I’m far from being finished with this one. I don’t like it all that much, so once the oils have dried, I’m probably going to make big changes.

I’m so thrilled to live where I can see the sunrise every day. It’s been one of the things I’ve been most grateful for since moving here.
This house has lots of light..windows in all the right places. I love my other house, but I’m so much happier living here, probably because I’m getting my vitamin D on. 🙂 I’ve become a tanned sun worshiper since moving here.
I open my door each morning, excited to see what kind of show the universe is putting on for me out there. She outdid herself today. Dang! This is what looking west looked like.
Day 10 of 30 Day Creative Gathering

I worked some more on her face today..cutting this painting session short once again because I have other pressing work to get finished. I’m up to my eyeballs in work. Gah.
September is a busy month for me, and I never intended on doing the 30 in 30. The only reason I’m doing it is because Sheila took over, and I knew I didn’t want to miss out. Since completing the 365 day daily painting challenge back in 2017-2018, I experienced pretty bad burn out. I’ve stayed away from challenges of any sort.
However, like the fool I am, I’m seriously considering doing another 365 day challenge in the near future. I started thinking about it again when my birthday rolled around back in July because that’s when I started the last one, but I decided I wasn’t quite ready to fully commit.
The resistance I feel isn’t with painting itself. I paint daily anyway. It’s about documenting, keeping track, blogging, and social media that I get weary of doing. We’ll see. If I can figure out a way to do all that without constant stress, I’ll do another 365 day challenge. I have to think about it, and come up with a plan. I won’t be doing it the same way I did last time, and hopefully I’ll avoid burnout.

Since summer is winding down, I thought I would post these summery beach paintings before it’s too late. I also want to apologize if you’ve come to my website lately, and noticed the blank front page. I updated WordPress, and Genesis (framework for WP) a few days ago, and just noticed that it wiped out my entire front page. I fixed it last night, so everything should be working now.
This morning I updated Woocommerce, which is how I’m running my online shop, and now EVERYTHING is messed up on in my dashboard. UGH. Good thing I learned html back in the day because my “Visual view” is completely whited out..all I can see is the html code or “text” page on my blog posts now.
Anyway, I’m not going to cry about it (too much :D), but please bear with me as I try to fix all the eff ups these updates have caused. Arrrgggh!! Have a million things to do, and really didn’t want to spend the day like this, but what can you do?

Throwback Thursday story time
This is one of a long series of girl and bird paintings I started in 2010 after my mother passed away. It began as a vision I suddenly had of my Mom feeding little chickadee birds out of her hand when I was younger.
She said if I was still and quiet, I could feed them, also. I wanted to hold those tiny little birds in my greedy little mittened hands soooo badly, but I was a hyper little thing. I didn’t have the patience to stand still long enough for them to land on me.
I remember dancing and prancing in the deep NH snow, wearing my white coat with black snowflakes on it..the one with the little white fur hood. I was about 34 years old, and I was getting more frustrated by the second because I was unable to make my dream come true. haha! Just kidding..I was about 3 or 4 years old, and I would hop around, impatiently, all agitated. Mom watched me from inside the kitchen, and she kept encouraging me to stay calm and quiet. It never worked for me.
Aww..maybe some day I’ll be as patient as my Mom once was, I can only hope. In the meantime, I’ll have to live vicariously through the girls I’ve painted, who have no other choice, but to stand still.
I think I’ve painted 18 of these girl and bird paintings. This is the only one painted in acrylics that I have left, if I’m not mistaken. You can click any of the images to purchase the painting directly from me. There is also one in oils available here.
I’m not sure if I’ll be painting more of them once these have been sold. Sometimes, I think, of course, I’ll keep painting them..how can I not? Other times, I think it might be best to let the series end here. It’s had a good long run.
I have kept the first one I painted in the series, and will never sell it. It’s titled Be Still, Child, and she looks a lot me when I was about 12 or 13. Although the original is mine to keep forever, I do offer small to large prints of it here.
