Mixed Media Artist - daily painter of portraits, flowers, abstracts and birds
We have a long string of dog days of summer to look forward to where it will be hovering around 100 or 100+. I usually put my nose to the grindstone during extreme heatwaves, and focus on painting. There isn’t much else to do.
multi-layered art journal page
I’m still painting abstracts daily,
and making some breakthroughs.
Me, too! I’ve been spending more time each day looking at art..trying to fill that void of what’s missing in so many areas of life. I didn’t realize what I was doing or why until I read this quote..then I was like..ah, yes..human spirit is what I’m looking for, of course!
Some artists who I’ve recently been admiring on Daily Paintworks are Caasim M, Anna Zhuleva, Pamela Kish, and Janet Reid Wilson.
Caught Harold Zip,
(who happens to be
a brilliant master artist, btw)
studying my husband’s painting.
He gave it two paws up,
in case you’re wondering.
lol
My son & family sent me the most beautiful bouquet of flowers for my birthday over the weekend. Aww!! Soooo sweet it made me cry!! Harold and Sweet Pea love flowers almost as much as I do. My husband gifted me a beautiful pink orchid, which I need to take a photo of soon..or maybe I should paint it instead? My family knows me so well. I adore orchids and how persnickety they are about their environment. I have a lot in common with them. lol
I’m off to the studio for the afternoon. Have a lovely Monday! xo
Reading: Mad at the World: A Life of John Steinbeck – I hesitated before getting this book because of the title. Steinbeck’s one of my favorite authors, and I don’t want to read negative things about him. Plus, he’s not here to defend himself, which seems unfair. So far, that hasn’t been the vibe of the book, but I’ve only just begun to read it. We’ll see.

I bought this little bunny for Chewy,
but Harold clawed it out of my hand,
and ended up claiming it immediately.

The video I posted a couple days ago of Sean Tucker reading a chapter from his new book didn’t show up in the email subscription. Seems like it’s hit or miss when I try to embed a video here. So if you’re seeing this in email, and there isn’t a Harold kitty video, you’ll have to visit my blog to see it.
Chewy did eventually get his bunny.
Aww!!

It was as if the universe made this pink cloud just for me..
and you.
Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. xo
This was taken a few weeks ago, but over the weekend I noticed that the leaves are starting to poke out on the branches now. Green everywhere! Spring is here, and so is the rain today.
Chewybarka Boo Boo
Mommy was having a stern talk with him about eating the cats’ food.
“You know it makes you go poo poo all over the house, baby.”
lol
It seemed like he was listening at the time, but now that I see the photo – he was listening with one ear only. The other ear was down, closed off, and like “la la lalaalaaaa can’t hear you, crazy lady. Youz knowz meeze a dog, right? Meeze eatz and dooze whatz meeze wantz”
more big chunks of dried up pink paint
Harold lays on my belly and stares at me furever some days.
I always wonder what he’s thinking.
I think he’s trying to hypnotize me with those eyes of his.
“Youz not getting sleepy,
youz must feedz meeze now.”
lol
I love the concept of these glass jar solar lights, but I don’t recommend buying them. They hardly ever work, even when using the battery. It takes a bit of unscrewing the cover, jiggling the lights, and fussing to get them to come on. Staying on is another issue..couple minutes tops. I had to hurry to take this photo. Then other times, I’ll wake up to my bedroom glowing in the middle of the night because it’s working like it should.
I wanted to use them outside for late night summer nights when we’re sitting around the fire having a glass of wine or camping, but they’re not reliable. I’ll probably end up tossing them soon or using the jars for something else, maybe?

Hope you’re having a lovely Monday. I’m actually in my studio painting today, which is rare these days. My attention keeps being pulled in different directions, but it’s raining, and therefore, a quiet calm day. I don’t need to go anywhere or do anything, so I’m rolling with it. Hope to have new art to show you in a few days.
Oh, and hey..the clearance sale is still ongoing in my Etsy shop. If you’re looking for some art at reduced prices, now is your chance. I just took a bunch of photos, and will be adding more to the sale this week. Stay tuned!!

I know he’s not a cat, but before I post kitty pics for Caturday, I want to wish a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY/ADOPTION DAY to my wittle boy, Chewy. It was 3 years ago today that my husband and I raced to meet, and rescue this boy from the humane society. I was so afraid he’d be adopted before we got there, and once we arrived we found out he was in a visiting room with some folks interested in him.
It was such a loooong wait to find out if we had a chance or not, and then they let us visit him without knowing for sure if the other people were going to adopt him. I think we had to wait an agonizingly long hour to find out for sure, and when they said they weren’t adopting him, I was soooo happy, and excited. I had fallen madly in love with this little one the moment I saw him through the glass. I mean, c’mon..who wouldn’t?
He must have known it was his big day today because he left me lots of surprises to step on, and track all through the house this morning while wearing my brand new slippers. LOL This little one sure knows how to celebrate a special day..by making Mommy steam clean the rugs. YAY!! 😀 haha
if it sits it ships
Happy Caturday
a day to honor those we love most

Dis baby
Last night I was lying in bed with this baby girl, talking on the phone – minding my own business when alllll of a sudden she jumped up, and lunged at my arm in full attack mode. I screamed out in pain, but she wouldn’t let go. All I could guess is she had a bad kitty dream? It took a few minutes to calm her down, and attach my arm back on my body. lol Aww..my precious.
My freckled nosed little man hasn’t been feeling well this week.
🙁
I got himz some medicine,
and he’s much better now.
Back to waking me up far too early by
rubbing his ice cold nose on my face.
Aww..
he’s such a Mama’s boy.
Harold Zip-a-roo and Miss Maudie Pawdie
Dis wittle bug-a-roo has been hounding me for hours. She’s restless, and needs attention today, just like every day. My cats are the most loving little beings. They’re always tuned in to my every movement (sometimes too much haha), and they’re always up for a snuggle, and cuddle anytime of day. Now, Mom, now??? How ’bout now????
My precious
These questions I found on this website. I thought it would be fun to do something different today, so I picked the first 10 questions to answer.
1. What is your favorite hobby or hobbies? Why so?
Atm, reading. I can’t get enough.
2. Do you like cold drinks or hot beverages?
Hot, even in the summer.
Sign of the times
3. What is your favorite tv show or web series?
Succession on HBO.
4. Do you prefer soft drinks or alcoholic drinks?
I never drink soda. I prefer lemon water, coffee or tea.
5. What is the food you can eat anytime?
Cheese because it’s about the only food I can eat without having an allergic reaction.
one of my favorite oil paintings
6. Which season do you enjoy most? Why so?
For the longest time my favorite season was summer. Then it switched to winter. Then I thought it might be autumn. Never spring because of tornadoes. The older I get, the more I realize I don’t have a preference anymore. There are things to love about every season, so might as well go with the flow. It’s not like we get a choice in the matter. In my next life I hope to control the weather. lol
Chewy Barka Boo Boo
7. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
I’m a bit of both. I switch back and forth. Right now I’m more of a night owl because I’ve been staying up all night reading & texting. I still have to get up in the morning to let Chewy out, and feed everyone. Someone needs to take my phone away from me. lol
Miss Maudie Pawdie
8. What was your favorite subject in high school?
English and science
A kitten house full of Sweet Pea
9. Are you more an extrovert or an introvert? Or do you fit in the definition of an ambivert?
Ambivert. I usually score just a little extroverted or a little introverted..except for the last time I took the Myers Briggs test when I got like 90% introverted. lol I must have been around people who were draining my battery that day. Some people give me a big charge, and I feel super energized around them, and others make me want to crawl into a hole in the ground and hide for days..depends on the person, and their vibe.
giant snowflakes floating down from the gray sky
My gawd it’s cold!!
☃️ ❄️ 🌨
Well, that was fun. I hope you know me a bit better now. I’ll probably keep this going for next few weeks. I’ve noticed these “get to know me” questions don’t have much to do with art or being an artist. If you have any art related questions, you can send them to me here.

The clearance sale is still ongoing in my Etsy shop. Some paintings have been marked down 75%. I’m trying to make room for the new paintings coming this year. I’m adding more paintings daily. Get them while you can.

Maudie is upset because Chewy keeps growling at her
when all she wants to do is snuggle with him.
Poor wittle angry girl.
Chewy’s like, “whut, mum?
Meeze notz do nuffing.”

I needed to read this today, and maybe you do, too?
xo
Chewy: Whew, Maudez gone. I canz snugglez wif blankie now.

What I’m reading: The Secret History – yup, I’m (perhaps stupidly) attempting another extremely long book written by Donna Tartt. This is my third time around with this author, and I’m up to my neck in words words words. Too many words, even for a book. lol
I’m not convinced I’ll get through this one yet, but the setting is Vermont, and I have a special place in my heart for the state. I grew up visiting Vermont often. My grandmother liked an ice cream shop in St Johnsbury, so we’d all pile into her big green station wagon, and off we’d go in the summer. It’s also where my Mom took me to teach me to drive a stick shift. When I got older I spent some time in Burlington & Rutland <– had a friend there (hi, Julie), and I’ve stayed at some lovely bed & breakfast inns in other parts of the state. Oh, those lovely old creaky farmhouses that you can only get to by traveling on extremely narrow winding mountain roads, like this..
Hope your Monday is going okay. I’ll see you tomorrow. xo

about walking in snow
that nobody else has walked on.
It makes you believe you’re special.

It takes a snowflake two hours to fall from cloud to earth.
Can’t you just see its slow, peaceful decent?

What a visual this last quote is..ahhh. The snow’s almost all melted now, but it sure was fun while it lasted.
