I painted this piece a couple months ago, and titled it The Strength to Carry On. I created it while thinking about all people I know who are struggling. I see you, I hear you, and I’m right there with you. Life is difficult, but let’s never stop trying, even if it means taking the tiniest step forward each day.

Imo, Etsy needs to wake up fast because the writing’s on the wall. The only reason many of us have stayed this long is because there aren’t many options as alternatives. Someone please build a new handmade site that actually gets traffic, and doesn’t fold within a year. There are so many of us ready to leave Etsy. We just need a place to go.

Snow On The Tracks – abstract painting

This is an original mixed media abstract painting on a flat panel. I painted it with palette knives, and acrylic paint. It has collage paper throughout the painting.

I was thinking of a bird’s eye view when I painted this one – as if I was up above the train tracks, and it was covered in snow.

I didn’t use a reference photo, so the imaginary snow I saw in my mind’s eye was pastel colors.

It’s suddenly feeling like fall around here. We went from low to mid 90s, and the ac still running every day to bundling up in layers overnight. The high today is only 58F, and we have a frost warning tonight. After months of heat, it’s quite an adjustment to make so quickly, but it’s just in time for spooky season.

Also, if the price is wrong, and you pay too much, I will refund you. I had this happen a couple weeks ago on Etsy. I had listed a painting for $175, when it was supposed to be $75. A lady bought it, and I refunded her $100 immediately when I saw the error.

These drawings might have corrugation lines, creases, and/or advertising showing. Because I used recycled corrugated cardboard, along with the hand cutting process it gives these painting a raw, rustic, primitive vibe. I like to call these pieces imperfectly perfect for this reason.

Revising an old portrait painting of Thom Yorke

I painted Thom Yorke from Radiohead many years ago..like back in 2010, I think, but unfortunately it was one of those paintings that never found its new owner or home. I sold quite a few prints, but I couldn’t seem to sell the original. Recently I decided to paint over it with oil pastels, and make the old painting brand new again.

It was quite fun to give this old portrait a whole new updated look. Since I changed it dramatically, I no longer see Thom Yorke in this painting. I updated the title to Sophisticated Gentleman.

This new guy has a vibe like he’s in a swanky bar sipping a scotch on the rocks, perhaps in NYC. Or maybe he’s enjoying a game of chess in his library. All kinds of stories come to my mind when I look at this painting. I’m sorta hoping a writer purchases this painting because I think he needs to be a lead character in a fictional book..like a romance or spy novel, perhaps? haha

Floral Centerpiece – pink roses flower painting

Flowers also bring an artist joy to create, I think. I had fun making this painting come to life. I hope it shows in my layout, color choices, and various drips and drops of paint.

I created this one using palette knives, acrylic heavy body & fluid paint, collage paper, oil paint markers, and varnish. I wanted to keep it loose, and playful. I think I achieved my goal, especially with the lopsided vase. I considered fixing the wonkiness, but decided against it. I just can’t take anything I create seriously these days. It’s just paint, and canvas. Why not make it fun?

I think “wonky” is my signature style..and if it’s not, then that’s what I’m working towards these days. More than ever, I just want to play when I’m in my studio. Life is serious enough, and studio time is my escape from all that. It’s not easy to leave all the issues of world behind when I go into my ~~bubble~~ studio each day, but it’s something I know I have to do..for myself. Trying to paint while fretting over every negative thing trending on Twitter isn’t going to make me a happier person. Creating wonky art makes me a happier person, and I hope I can pass that happiness on to someone else with my paintings.

We’ve had a heat advisory now for what? 3 or more weeks. It’s not going away, but it looks like we might have a break coming in about 10 days. It’s kinda funny how 100F can feel cool when the temperature has been 110F this week.

Colley Whisson – LOVE his artwork, particularly A Sunny Sunday Morning – pink living room with pink walls. I can’t figure out how to directly link to it or I would.

Gina Gilmour – Creatively talented NY artist. I enjoy spending time looking at her paintings, and wondering where and how she comes up with her ideas. Quite imaginative.
