Day 78
I noticed the other day that I have 277 abstract painting listings in my Etsy shop, which have expired. I’ve been ignoring my abstracts more than I realized over the past 6 to 8 months. I’m working to get the expired listings active again, but as you can guess it will take some time. I’m so delighted to be making abstracts my main focus for the next few weeks.

Prices on my abstract art start at only $8 for prints, and $15 for originals in my Etsy shop. If you’re looking for a gift for a friend, spouse or a small pick-me-up for yourself, have a look. I’ll be adding more daily.

Red, it’s always got to outperform all the other colors on the palette, and draw your eye to it immediately.

I wasn’t feeling well last night, so I went to bed early. Lucky for me, this little girl found me, and was up for reading art blogs with me. I’m better now.

Day 75
Is it weird that I’m already making plans for what I’m going to paint in November for this 365 day project? When it comes to work, I’ve always been big on planning things out ahead of time. Keeping a good old fashion (dry erase) wall calendar helps tremendously to keep me in line. Also, I don’t know what I’d do without my daily to-do list. I use the Wunderlist app. I have it installed on all three of my apple devices, and check it constantly. I’ve learned it’s important to be extremely organized in this business. If it’s not on my to-do list, I’ll forget, and it won’t ever get done.
Blog post – check!
Ding! (I love the little noise it makes when I check something off. Makes me know I’ve accomplished something)
How do you stay organized or do you? hm.. Let me know in the comments below.

Day 74
*****
I painted the palette knife portrait in this video a couple years ago. I remember my husband had just picked up a bunch of Vogue magazines from the library for me to use in my art journals. 🙂
I stopped making Youtube videos back in July. It was a busy summer, and something had to go. I have been working non-stop behind the scenes with my licensing partners; plus, doing commissioned work, and painting every day for this 365 day art project. My days are/were packed full. When I looked at my YT channel the other day, and saw that I haven’t updated in 3 months it got me thinking. hm..what can I do to change that?
This is probably nuts, and you should lock me up NOW, but.. I am considering making a daily video for 30 days during this 365 day art project. Why do I feel like I’m setting myself up for failure even contemplating it? I keep thinking it wouldn’t be that difficult. Everything is only as hard as you make it, right? It’s all in the mindset. If you think it’s going to suck, it will suck, and then some. I just need to devise a plan ahead of time, and shuffle things around a bit.
Anyway, I have plenty of time to figure out a course of action. It’s not something I’d consider doing now as I’m coming up on the busiest months of the year. I’m leaning towards either next February (because it’s a short month, but if it’s anything like this year, I’ll be swamped with custom orders, so Idk?) or spring/summer 2018, if I do it at all.
Regardless of whether I do a daily video or not, now that I’m more or less settled into my new studio, I want to film at least one of these new palette knife portraits sometime this month. I don’t paint the same as I did two years ago, and I like to have a record of it to study. It helps me to make changes in the future. For instance, I used to use a small wide knife for portraits, as you see in the video above. It was my favorite go-to knife, but I no longer use it much, if at all. I have a new favorite knife these days, and a better approach to painting, imo.
If you want me to consider bringing back the weekly video and/or making a daily art video for 30 days sometime in the near future, subscribe to my Youtube channel to give me some incentive. Another reason I stopped making videos is because there didn’t seem to be much interest, so I thought why bother when I can be doing something more productive instead? As you probably know by now, one of my big pet peeves is wasting time. I’ll do anything to avoid it. So, lmk what you think..yay or nay?

Day 73
I could title all my paintings Modest From a Distance. Until you get up close to them, you can not possibly see or touch all the layers and texture. Photos are great, but I’m not talking about seeing a photo of a painting. I’m talking about holding it in your hands, running your fingers across the surface, and experiencing it in person. It’s the only way to really see a painting, especially one painted impasto with palette knives. My camera simply isn’t capable of producing a photo that does any painting justice.

Good things are associated with blue, like clear days, more than singing the blues. Just the word ‘blue’ in the singular is full of optimism and positive connotation to most people. -David Carson
