I have a knot just below my left shoulder blade. I spent too much time hunched over this painting, and others. I like to work standing up with the painting flat on a table, but it’s horrible on the neck and back. The kittens are sound asleep in their little bed behind me. The dehumidifier is making a soft humming sound, and it’s relaxing. White noise. Other than that, it’s quiet, peaceful. Just the way I like it.

Day 1 of 30 in 30
Happy New Year, everyone! I’m kicking off 2015 with my first larger painting in my floral series. This is a mixed media collage painting. Lots of layers, and texture painted impasto style with knives.
This month I’ll be posting a mixture of sizes. I ordered 100 6×6 hardboard panels from Blick last week, so I have plenty for the challenge. I’ll do what I can to stick in a few larger paintings here and there during the month when I have time, too. Plus, I have a few 4×4 black and white oil landscapes that I’m working on. It should be an interesting month.
Day 1 = done. Wish me luck!! Here we go!!

My studio is a M E S S right now. My husband built me some shelves to dry my oil paintings on, and I’m in the middle of priming them. I think there are 6 altogether, and two are loooong..like, way over my head, and difficult to maneuver, and I’m afraid the kittens are going to get hurt on them long. Whew!

I’m so excited, tho! As you probably know, oil paintings take forever to dry. I’ve only been able to paint a few oil paintings at a time because I don’t have much counter space to have them lying around. Now, I’ll be able to paint to my heart’s content. Considering 30 painting in 30 days is coming up again in January, I think I’m going to need all the drying space I can get.

My husband is waiting for me to finish painting them so he can hang them. I had to wait for Fedex downstairs all day yesterday, so my studio time was limited. I think he’s more anxious to see the finished product than I am. For now, though, I’m going to take a short holiday break. I’ll be back after Christmas.
Happy Holidays!
Greg picked me some flowers last week, and Sweet Pea tried to eat them. Little stinker. I snagged it away from her just in time, so she only got two petals. She might be blind, but nothing gets past her. Anything new in the house, and she instantly knows. Last night she walked into my office, and right up to a trunk I had moved in from the hallway. She smelled it, and then jump right up on it, as if it had been there the whole time. It never ceases to amaze me how this blind little girl sees the world.

This week is quickly slipping away. I’m going to take a brief blogging break to rest up, and I’ll be back on Sunday Monday (got a little ahead of myself there) with the start of Leslie Saeta‘s 30 paintings in 30 days for September. I’ll be blogging every day for the month of September, which is the hardest part of the challenge for me. Painting every day is easy, but the photographing and blogging? I find it difficult, especially the writing part, so don’t be surprised if my posts are photos only sometimes. Words come hard for me most days. I often dream of changing my blog into a photo blog, so I don’t have to write anymore. Because sometimes it takes me hours or days (ahem! yes, this is day 2 on this post) to write a simple post such as this one. No lie. Word constipation isn’t fun. I write, delete, write, delete. arrrrrgh. Photos are much easier.
My theme this time around for 30 in 30 is going to be birds, and I’m adding flowers to the mix, so it doesn’t get too boring. Heck, I might even add in still life, too. That will give me a wider range, and not feel so restrictive. Yeah, so my theme is birds, flowers and still life painted with palette knives. I’m kinda into flowers more at the moment, but that could change as the month progresses.
Are you doing the challenge, too? What’s your theme? Let me know in the comments.

I’m back posting every day now.

Since then, I’ve always been a “live for today, and look toward the future” type of person. I wake up every morning with a clean slate. Yesterday is wiped out. If I had an spat with my husband the night before, it’s forgotten. If I didn’t paint as well as I thought I should yesterday, I don’t bring it with me into the studio. I move on. Today is a brand new day! I celebrate!!
I don’t like to waste what precious time I have left on this planet thinking about things that is impossible to change. I don’t have a time machine. Even if I did, I wouldn’t want to go backwards in time. The past is the past, but I’m here today. No looking back, and wishing I was the me from long ago. I am only the me of this moment, right now. So, because of my beliefs, this painting is really special to me.
Don’t look back because you might fall over what’s in front of you.
