People Can Carry You Through Oil Portrait Painting

After spending a great deal of time on this portrait painting, I think she’s finally finished. Laaaa! I always feel like singing when I cross that finish line. I think I started this painting about 8 or 9 months ago..maybe a year? I have no sense of time anymore, so let’s just say it was a while ago.

She’s gone through many changes in those months, and I’ve enjoyed messing around with different clothing, facial expressions, and backgrounds. It wasn’t easy, but I think I’ve found what I like the best. It’s been one of those K.I.S.S. lessons where I worked too hard on a painting for no reason. Ah, well. It took what it took to get here, and I’m happy with the outcome..that’s all that matters.

Thank you for all the messages you sent me on my last post. It is an exciting time, and I’m happy to share it with y’all. Sorry I’ve been a bit absent this week. There’s a lot going on here. I wear many hats, as some of you know, and lately, I’ve had to put the one with “landlord” written across it on. I’m back in my office to ship out paintings today. I hope to get into the studio, too, so I have something to blog about next week. Crossing fingers I can tap into that creative outlet today. It seems like it’s been a month since I last painted, so we’ll see how it goes. Have a wonderful Thursday. xo

1. What is your favorite hobby or hobbies? Why so?

Atm, reading. I can’t get enough.

2. Do you like cold drinks or hot beverages?

Hot, even in the summer.

3. What is your favorite tv show or web series?

Succession on HBO.

4. Do you prefer soft drinks or alcoholic drinks?

I never drink soda. I prefer lemon water, coffee or tea.

5. What is the food you can eat anytime?

Cheese because it’s about the only food I can eat without having an allergic reaction.

6. Which season do you enjoy most? Why so?

For the longest time my favorite season was summer. Then it switched to winter. Then I thought it might be autumn. Never spring because of tornadoes. The older I get, the more I realize I don’t have a preference anymore. There are things to love about every season, so might as well go with the flow. It’s not like we get a choice in the matter. In my next life I hope to control the weather. lol

7. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I’m a bit of both. I switch back and forth. Right now I’m more of a night owl because I’ve been staying up all night reading & texting. I still have to get up in the morning to let Chewy out, and feed everyone. Someone needs to take my phone away from me. lol

8. What was your favorite subject in high school?

9. Are you more an extrovert or an introvert? Or do you fit in the definition of an ambivert?

Ambivert. I usually score just a little extroverted or a little introverted..except for the last time I took the Myers Briggs test when I got like 90% introverted. lol I must have been around people who were draining my battery that day. Some people give me a big charge, and I feel super energized around them, and others make me want to crawl into a hole in the ground and hide for days..depends on the person, and their vibe.

Rolling hills – oil landscape painting

I think I had the rolling Flint Hills of Kansas (one of my favorite places on earth) and Oklahoma in mind when I painted this or maybe the Boston mountains in Arkansas? I’m not sure because I painted it several years ago, and I’m just now ready to offer it for sale. I love the jagged knife marks in this painting, where my knife came to a sudden stop, filled up on oil paint and began anew.

I don’t paint landscapes anymore, so this one is kinda special to me.

Hope you have a fabulous weekend, and week ahead. I’m going to be trying to stay warm because from the look of our weather, the high is only going to be around 10F next week. Whoa! Yep, I said high..the low is going to be zero. Good thing I have lots of hot beverages, an electric blanket, books, kitties & the cutest dog on the planet to keep me warm. Gonna make a big pot of homemade soup in my instant pot to eat all week. Have to make the best of it or I’ll just sit around crying. I’ll have little tear icicles to pluck off my face. LOL Nooooooo!!! I keep telling myself I’ll be mowing the grass in another couple weeks, so I better enjoy this time now while I can.

What I’m reading: Finished The Secret History by Donna Tartt early this morning. It kinda makes me wish I had stuck with Little Friend when I tried to read it a year or so ago, but nah..I’m good. Two outta three ain’t bad, and this book was her best, I think.

Now I’m speeding along a book by Fredrik Backman called Anxious People. I have a feeling it will be a fast read because so far the characters are being described very nicely, and easy to remember. The Secret History didn’t really get going for me for several chapters/days because I couldn’t keep the characters straight in my head. I don’t know if it was the writing or I didn’t pay enough attention to the beginning of the book. I noticed other people online were having trouble, also. I don’t recommend searching around too much because I ran into a bunch of spoilers with no warnings, which kinda ruined it for me. :/ My advice if you have plans to read this book is to jot down names and descriptions as you’re reading, at least in the beginning. I think it would have read faster if I had done that. I would have spent less time backtracking.

Anxious People has super short chapters which is attractive to me..like only 3 or 4 minutes long. I can read one or two chapters while cooking dinner, and feel like I’m accomplishing something. It’s kinda refreshing since The Secret History had extremely long chapters, and required a serious commitment of sitting still for great periods of time. I get antsy if things are going to take a lot of time and focus, so short chapters are best. I’m kinda surprised that I stuck with The Secret History, but I’m glad I did. Like Donna Tartt’s book The Goldfinch, this one will stay with me for a while.

I got the idea for this painting after recently looking through my mother’s old photo albums. My aunt had asked me to look for specific photos for her. I didn’t find the photos, but what I did find was scribbled out faces in some of the group photos of the family..of my aunt. LOL My mother had taken a blue ballpoint pen to my aunt’s (her sister) face. Oh, my goodness!!! Talk about awkward, but soooo like my Mom. bahahahaha
