A little glimpse into my messy art studio this week.
Neatness, madam, has nothing to do with the truth. The truth is quite messy, like a wind blown room.

9×12 digital print of my painting titled Rose
Available for purchase here
Frame is not included in the purchase of this print.
It’s only to give you a visual of what it could look like framed.
You can see me paint Rose later this week, once I get the video edited.
Be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel, so you don’t miss it.
ps: the roses were handpainted, not collage.
I like how they came out, especially since I did it from my imagination, not a reference photo.

Good Monday morning to you. xo I had a pretty good weekend. Our taxes are done; what a relief!!!! Whew!! My husband likes to wait until the 15th, or in this case the 17th, and then there’s lots of pressure, and stress. This year, I suggested doing it early, and I spent all morning getting my figures ready from my business, while he gathered together his paperwork. When he found out he had until the 17th, instead of the 15th, he almost backed out of doing it. lol I made gluten free, vegetarian pizza for dinner last night. Soooo good. Had lots of kitty snuggle time, and relaxed. Ahh.
Today I’m watching: Peter Campbell painting portraits in oil
My order from Blick is coming tomorrow, and I bought a lot of oil paint and 60 canvas.
I don’t have a shelf for drying yet, but it’s okay.
Studio after dark
My favorite time to paint is at night. I’m most relaxed after the sun goes down, and the stars come out. It’s peaceful, and I can let my mind wander as I paint. I’ve been known to pull all the blinds and curtains shut at noon, just to pretend it’s nighttime. It sets the mood, and it’s less distracting. Being up here in the trees like I am, I see birds flying around, and I tend to stop and watch them. Some days I don’t get a lot done because I’d rather watch the birds than paint. I counted 9 red cardinals the other day. That was worth stopping for. 🙂
black fingernails – art journal warm up page
Using a magazine cutout is a great way to warm up before starting to paint more seriously on canvas each day. I do this in my art journal, using mostly cheap craft paint. It doesn’t cost much, and it engages my brain, and gets my hands moving. I do this exercise every day. Sometimes, I turn the camera on.
I painted my nails red today. I don’t know why I just wrote that, but I did. haha Happy Thursday, and happy PPF, if you’re visiting on Friday. Let’s not let the day pass by without getting drunk…on art, of course. What did you think I meant? lol For real, tho. I really like this shade of red. In case you’re wondering it’s Maybelline Express Finish No 190, Racing Rubies. I got it on Ebay – here. No affiliation. I just like it, and the seller ships fast. I don’t normally go for red, but this one is dark, and shiny.
You will lose someone you can’t live without, and your heart will be badly broken, and the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. But this is also the good news. They live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you come through. It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly—that still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance with the limp. Anne Lamott

Life seems to be speeding faster by me these days. It seems like I get up in the morning, and rush around in madness, and boom..time for bed again. I wish I could slow it all down. Why must everything go by in such a flash, as if I’m riding in car on a super highway? I am barely, and I mean, barely keeping up with everything I need to do.

The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case.~ Chuck Close
Happy PPF, and Friday the 13th, everyone!! 🙂
My studio hours are changing!! My new summer hours started a couple weeks ago. I usually stay up until the wee hours of the morning in the summertime. I like to skip the bright hot sun, the loud kids screaming at the city pool down the street, and the heat, as much as possible. I really enjoy the darkness, the quiet of the nighttime. In the winter, I’m the complete opposite. I get up very early, sometimes as early as 3 or 4 am, and I’m up for the day. I don’t know why I do this, but my body does it naturally. I used to fight it, but I’ve learned to listen to what my body is telling me, and go with the flow.
I was thrilled to find out last week that my husband’s office hours are changing on the 15th, from daytime to afternoons/nights, again!! Yay!! Now I won’t worry so much about waking him up when I get ready for bed at 4am. Of course, when winter rolls around, he’ll probably have to worry about waking me. Winter seems forever away at this point, tho.
So, look for more of my posts at night now. I like to sit down and write all my blogs for the week in one or two sessions, and then schedule them throughout the week. However, some I write in the moment, such as now, and I’m about to hit Publish at 11pm. 🙂
