5 minute painting
day 15
Work in progress
daily painting: 365 day art project
Day 151
Painted on Dec 15th, 2017
Success is the sum of small efforts,
repeated day in and day out.
– Robert Collier
I’m writing this post to clear up any confusion about the “5 minute painting” theme I’m doing this month. Several people, my husband included, have been thinking I’m painting an entire painting every day in 5 minutes. Holy moly. I paint fast, but not that fast.

I almost hate to burst the bubble, but so far this month I’ve completed one painting. ONE!! This one ^. I realize one painting is a far cry from finishing a large painting every day, but I’m still happy with my results.
The way I look at it, one painting is better than zero paintings, right? And, that’s the whole point of this experiment.
One of the reasons I’m painting for only 5 minutes a day this month is because so many people have complained to me over the years that they don’t have time to paint. I’ve heard every excuse imaginable. I’m essentially calling BS on all the excuses, in the nicest way possible, of course. 🙂 I’ve set out to prove it can be done in as little as 5 minutes day..even if it takes days or weeks to finish a painting.
If you take small baby steps you will still achieve your goal, simple as that. So, if you’re working a 40 hour week, you can still paint every single day. All you have to do is make the commitment, show up, and get to it. Don’t let anyone tell you it can’t be done. As the old saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Who made up the rule paintings have to be painted in a day?
I was taught that the way of progress
is neither swift nor easy.

Hope this clears up any confusion you might have had.

Here’s a small glimpse of something else I’ve got going on this month (because this 365 day art project is only a teeny tiny part of my workday)…another revised painting. This one used to have a skinny blue vase, and it kinda looked silly to me. Now the vase is in better proportion to the canvas. I also changed the background, and now I love this painting. It will be hanging in my dining room until it sells.
