Often times, art for me is just art – nothing personal involved. It comes from having a strong deep desire to make something new every day. I think I was born this way. Making things runs deep in my family roots from what I’ve read about my grandfather’s last name, and researching our family tree.

When I’m not creating paintings to sell (like now since I’m on a hiatus), I still make tons of art. It’s like a present I’ve been giving myself almost daily for years.

If a day goes by, and I haven’t created something new, I feel out of sorts. If several days go by, you probably should stay far away from me because more than likely I’ll be cranky.

I like acquiring new things, but I don’t want to buy something new every day or even weekly. So instead, I gift myself a new page in my art journal – something just for me that I get to keep forever, and that makes me very happy.

It satisfies the little shopaholic living inside my brain who often confuses “needs” and “wants” when buying new things, and it helps keep her spending under control. I say to her, “Here – I made you this NEW painting, my love. She jumps up and down with joy screaming “NEW NEW NEW”, and then she stops bugging me to buy her something for a while. lol You gotta make friends with the little 3 year old living in your head, I swear.

I didn’t notice the swan/dinosaur creature peering over the top of his nose until I uploaded the photo. I didn’t paint that little guy..it formed on its own, and dried this way. I LOVE when surprises like this happen. It even has a little eye.
