Oil Portrait Painting No 19/100
WIP
I’m almost a quarter of the way finished with the 100 oil painting challenge. Well..I actually am more than that now because I paint faster than I blog, but y’know what I’m saying.
This is another one I revised. It was a mixed media acrylic piece, and I decided to re-paint her face & hair with oils.
The only problem with oils is how much darker, and deeper the colors are when compared to acrylics. I don’t notice until I see the oil paintings next to some of my acrylics. I have to remember to go back in and lighten the paintings up, which I did with this one.
What I’m reading: Ecologists Dig Prairie Dogs, And You Should Too – I do! There were some living at my old house, and I absolutely adored them. They’re so fun to watch poke their heads up out of their little holes like wack-a-moles. There has been a big field full of them at one Walmart here for years. Sitting in the car, watching them is the only reason to go to Walmart, imo.
Now, voles are a different issue. I’m gonna have to read about them to see them in a different light because they’re making a mess of my yard, and it’s difficult to mow.
Listening to: Unlocking Us with Brené Brown podcast
What I’m Watching: Swimming Pool – I really enjoy films like these..where you’re never quite sure what the heck you’ve been watching for the past 1.5 hrs. It leaves you wondering, was I deceived through the entire film? lol 5 stars!!
The Last Shaman – This one was interesting. I know some people who have experienced Ayahuasca, and it’s helped them. Others have hated the experience. I don’t think I would ever do it myself, but never say never, as they say.
Artists I’m Admiring: Jennifer Pochinski and Susan Lichtman – I know about them because I’m signed up to Catherine Kehoe‘s newsletter, and she featured them this morning.
They both paint personal, intimate scenes..but somehow they make you (the viewer) feel welcome in the room, like you belong there, and you’re a part of whatever it is going on. Their paintings have a feeling of home..of being in a comfortable surrounding with those you love. That’s the feeling I get, anyway.
