Day 11 of 30 in 30
I’ve used the same reference photo about 2 or 3 times recently in my art journal, and each time, the portrait comes out different. I exaggerated her mood this time around to give her a strong, harsh appearance. I wanted her to scold the viewer with her eyes. haha It’s like the look your Mom used to give you that made you gulp, and stop immediately in your tracks. 🙂 It was made with pastels – the chalk and oily kind, and acrylic paint.
I’ve also painted her 3 times in oils, here and here, which has a completely different look and feel. I’m probably going to paint her a few more times before I retire the reference photo. I enjoy painting her, her pencil thin eyebrows (it’s a black and white vintage reference photo), and the 3/4 face.
Today is going to be a great day! 🙂 I’m off to my studio to paint. Hope everyone doing the challenge enjoys their painting time today.
ps: I just noticed I need to fix her lip a bit. Why is it that sometimes we can’t see our artwork until we take a photo of it? I’ll probably go back over a lot of these 30 in 30 paintings, and fix them. There just isn’t time to care right now because I must rush onward..
