the beautiful winter
handmade book
Instructions for living a life.
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
-Mary Oliver
Since I have been an artist for so many years, there’s little territory I’ve left unexplored. I’ve pretty much done it all..all that I’m interested in doing, anyway. Recently, I started to get an itch for making handmade books again, something I haven’t done for many years.
It all started when moving my studio, I came across this darling little blank book. It was made and given to me by Cathy Cullis, I think back in the Livejournal days. I’m talking 15 years I’ve cherished this tiny book. I had the “I don’t want to ruin it, so I’m not going to use it” mindset. I finally got up the courage, and began filling the book up just last week. I’m so happy I did because I love it even more now that it holds my story.
The absence of green
I love the theme, and title of the book. It was picked out by Cathy, and she couldn’t have chosen a better one for me. I’ve often said winter is my favorite season. Although, I have to admit, I’m pretty fickle when it comes to seasons. After the sweet, mild summer we just had, I’m actually bracing myself for the cold. I’ll never forget how lovely this summer was, and I’m not quite ready to let go of it just yet. Still wearing shorts, even though the mornings and nights are a bit too chilly.
Let go or be dragged.

Gin Rummy – great game until he cheats
My husband, Greg, laughed so hard when I told him the title of this page.
You should ask him why I was forced to make such a page and title. 😉

Day 84
This book took 2 days to fill, so I’m breaking the posts up into two days.
Part 2 will be coming up tomorrow.
Stay tuned.
