I hope you’re taking life easy as summer begins to wind down. It’s been looking very fall-like around here for months, so flipping the calendar to September feels appropriate to me.
It’s been a strange season. The sun cooked everything to a brown crispness early on. I haven’t had to mow the lawn since June. The vegetable gardens died weeks ago – before producing anything, as did my irises, and hydrangea. We were watering the gardens every day, but the sun worked overtime this year to fry everything. It was pushing 110F too often to keep anything alive.
The leaves started turning brown & falling off the trees about mid July. It happens every summer from the intense heat. One tree in the yard is especially bare now, which makes my eye think it’s winter, but my body knows it’s still very much summer.
Here’s to the brand new month of September, and a new season coming soon. I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend. Wow..labor day, can you believe it’s here already?

What I’m reading:
The Maid by Nita Prose – just started this one. Haven’t really sunk my teeth into it yet.
Call Me Crazy – autobiography memoir by Anne Heche
What I’m watching:
I’ve also been into watching documentaries when I draw lately, like The Tragic Life Of Edgar Allan Poe, Vincent Van Gogh, and Marcel Proust. You can’t go wrong with a documentary about artists and/or writers, imo.
