I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way… things I had no words for.
Georgia O’Keeffe
Several months ago, someone sent me a message on FB, and asked how I blend my colors so well in my portrait paintings. Although I did write her back quickly, I’m still thinking of an answer. I’m stumped. For me, words and art don’t mix well together, which is why my words here below the artwork usually don’t have anything to do with the artwork itself.
My hat goes off to those who teach art. I don’t know how you do it. I’ve been asked several times to teach online classes. Once I was offered a good amount of money for a single video, but so far, I’ve turned the offers down. It’s pretty clear to me, I’m not a teacher, not if I have to put what I’m doing into words, anyway. I can show, but not tell. I’ve tried a couple times to set up the camera, and talk while painting. It’s soooo HARD to explain what I’m doing as I’m doing it. There would be huge gaps of absolute silence in the video because I’d be so busy doing, I’d forget I was suppose to be talking. 🙂
It’s something I’m going to think about, tho, and I just might surprise myself by writing some posts about painting here on my blog. We’ll see if I can start to wrap my head around it..or not. If you want to watch me paint, and you don’t need words to go along with it, my youtube channel is here. You’re more than welcome to glean whatever you can from me.
