This is where I left off on the big canvas I’ve been working on..the one that hangs above my couch. After lots of layers, and having no clear direction of where I wanted to go with this painting, I think I finally figured out what I want to do with this piece.
I wrote about this abstract a while ago, and how I regretted painting over it back in 2011ish. Ten years later, and I still can’t forget about this painting. I’ve tried to re-paint it many times, but haven’t been successful. I decided I want to give it another shot.
I can’t remember how I painted it, so I’m not shooting for an exact copy. I just hope to have some sort of resemblance by the time I’m done. Or maybe not? I might decide this new painting needs to go in a different direction, but for now, I’m keeping my old painting in mind as I paint.
I started off by using oil pastels to get some color down. I worked very fast, glancing at my phone now and then to see where the colors were in the photo of my old abstract painting.
I’m guessing that my old painting had more burnt sienna and burnt umber in it. I like how the red makes it pop, so I’m not sure yet if I’m going to tone it down.
This is where I stopped at the end of the day. It’s back on the wall, so I can study it. Now that I have a direction to go in, I’m excited to work on it more.
You can see the progress I’ve made by reading part 1 and part 2.
