Labyrinth of Dreams

I started painting this series of portraits on 9×12 on paper last month. I’m loving painting larger, and will continue this for a bit until I run out of paper or get bored with this size.

It’s kinda funny how artists change over time. For years, I worked on 4×4 inch panels, and painted over 1000 of them, maybe 2000? Idk? I lost count along the way.
Now, I don’t ever want to paint that small again (ha!), which is too bad for me because I’m pretty sure I still have a stack of empty 4x4s to get through before I can stop completely. I’m thinking I’ll get to them later this year, maybe when I start painting with oils again.

Like most artists, I get bored when I’m working in the same size, same paint, same ideas, same series for what seems like forever. I have to mix it up, and think creatively in order to stay interested in my own work.

Everywhere Mary Went

I’m going to end with a little story about this portrait painting of a woman named Mary, and her lamb. I got thinking about the nursery rhyme Mary Had a Little Lamb, and how annoying that must have been for Mary to have a lamb follow her wherever she went. lol I mean, she had no privacy. Everyone needs privacy, even Mary. No wonder she looks so perturbed in my painting. Poor little lambie looks bewildered because he has no idea he’s being a pest. Aww! This painting makes me chuckle every time I look at it. I hope it does the same for you. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a lovely creative day.
