These are the drawings I wrote about the other day. If you purchase these through my website, I offer free shipping. You can also purchase them through either Etsy or my eBay store, but you’ll have to pay shipping on those sites.
The high fees on Etsy and eBay, plus the constant demand on sellers to put our items on sale – when most of us are already discounting our prices, makes it impossible to offer free shipping on those sites.
I sold a painting for $40 on Etsy recently. The buyer ended up paying over $50 because of tax and shipping. Guess how much I made out of that? Etsy sent me $6 and some change.
Yes, I know it’s because I owed Etsy fees, which have been taken directly out of our sales for a while now, but still…it was certainly disheartening to see that measly little $6 for all the work and time I had put into the painting.
The math seemed to even out more, in my mind anyway, when we paid an Etsy bill monthly. Then I could see how much I made was higher than the cost of Etsy fees. All I could think was..thank goodness I don’t have to pay shipping fees on top of this or I’d be in the negative and owe Etsy for making this sale. Oy.
So, because of the high fee situation, I cannot offer free shipping unless you buy it directly from me. This goes for smaller paintings only. I have to add the shipping cost into the price on paintings that ship in larger boxes. The cost of shipping materials and USPS prices keep going up, unfortunately.
