No Looking Back

I’ve never been all that nostalgic. I’ve never spent time wishing I could go back to a time or place in my life. I started studying Buddhism when I was about 19. It really spoke to me, and became my way of life. Live in the moment. The moment is all we’ve got. There’s a lot more to it, of course, but this is what sunk into my brain the most.

Since then, I’ve always been a “live for today, and look toward the future” type of person. I wake up every morning with a clean slate. Yesterday is wiped out. If I had an spat with my husband the night before, it’s forgotten. If I didn’t paint as well as I thought I should yesterday, I don’t bring it with me into the studio. I move on. Today is a brand new day! I celebrate!!

I don’t like to waste what precious time I have left on this planet thinking about things that is impossible to change. I don’t have a time machine. Even if I did, I wouldn’t want to go backwards in time. The past is the past, but I’m here today. No looking back, and wishing I was the me from long ago. I am only the me of this moment, right now. So, because of my beliefs, this painting is really special to me.

Don’t look back because you might fall over what’s in front of you.
