I’ve been creating a series I titled the Rescued Series since June of 2024. I named it that because I was rescuing the cardboard from going into the recycle bin to use as my substrate. Most of the cardboard came from ordering my rescued fur babies food online.

Last month, I finished No 300, and it seemed like a good number to stop on, so I’m ending the series here. I was just looking at all the photos from this series, and it’s quite overwhelming with 800+ pics in the folder.
Silly me was thinking I would make a collage of all 300 of them, but it would have been a daunting laborious task. I’m only picking out a few to post here today.
I think it goes to show how little tiny baby steps can add up over time if you stick with something.
This is where it began with No 1. I think I had maybe 25 to 50 of these in mind when I started. I thought it would be give me a project to do last summer when I wasn’t working on other paintings.
I started out using oil pastels. I didn’t make it far before switching to my favorite medium, gouache. Once I started painting, I couldn’t stop. One after another, this series kept me busy when it was 110F last summer & -30 F over the winter, plus all the days in between.
It was a little sad ending the series, but the only thing changing is the series title, really. I’m going to keep painting these weird little characters living in my head.
There’s something about starting a new series that fires me up with a boost in renewed creative energy. I’m already 24 paintings into the new series, and have been painting up a storm. Once again, I have a summer project to work on, which makes me happy.
If you see any here that interests you, my work is available on Daily Paintworks, and eBay. I don’t have all 300 listed on DPW yet, but I’m working on it.
