Altering an old Vincent Van Gogh Calendar
My husband gave me this old Vincent Van Gogh calendar about a month ago. I’m not sure if this is a calendar we used back in 2017 or if he found it? He’s always running across old ephemera lots at auctions, which he passes along to me to use in my art.
I’ll eventually paint the cover, but for now, I’m focusing on the inside pages.
The calendar originally hung vertically with Vincent’s artwork at the top and the month/days of the week at the bottom. I decided to keep the original format, along with some of his original art showing through.
It almost feels like Vincent & I are doing a collab together, and it gives me a fun little fantasy to play out in my head as I’m painting. I can imagine walking over to his room to drop the book off after I’ve completed a page, so he can work on the next page.
And, each time we trade the book, we share a meal and a chat together. Or maybe just a chat, and some tea since we’d both probably be too broke for a meal. Either way, I’m having fun creating this little book. If you want to see how it turns out, I’ll be sharing it here as I go along, so…
