Bringing a drawing to life with gouache
work in progress shots
This is my latest piece from last week. I used a General’s pastel chalk stick to draw this dear man with a bulbous nose.
This guy’s been hanging out in my imagination for a few days, clanging on the bars of his cage to be let out. I almost left him as a drawing, but decided he needed some gouache to bring him to life.
“But I'm glad you'll see me as I am. Above all, I wouldn't want people to think that I want to prove anything. I don't want to prove anything, I just want to live; to cause no evil to anyone but myself. I have that right, haven't I?”
Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
His beard was still glistening wet when I shot this pic.
If you’re interested in owning this one, it’s available here.
I haven’t been reading as much this week because I’m kinda mad at 3 books I was reading, and DNF them. One I didn’t even get through the first chapter because it was too violent. No thanks. I want to read to escape the horrible stuff going on in the world, not add to it with violent fiction. Ugh. I had to take a break to process my negative book energy, so I watched youtube and painted instead.
Thank you, David Hockney - indeed! He will be sadly missed by so many.
This is a new to me channel, so I also watched Defeated by AI, and Making Art When Others Are Suffering.
I’ve been struggling with both of these issues for a few years now. I liked what I saw & heard, so I’ subbed.
Charles Bukowski – Writer on the Edge | Biographical Documentary
Every so often I go down a Buk rabbit hole. He was a mighty fine writer, and a fascinating human. Every time I pick up one of his books to reread it or watch a documentary about him, I discover something new I didn’t catch before..or maybe I forgot, like about him getting married to a stranger. He really was a crazy mofo, and I would have LOVED to be friends with him. I think? 🤔
I also caught the tail end of this live portrait study done by HamRib Art.
I don’t watch painting videos often anymore because I have my painting style figured out, and want to do my own thing, but there was something about the thumbnail that made me click. I’m so glad I did because I had fun watching this one. I need to go back and watch the entire video now.
THE CURE LIVE | Primavera Sound Barcelona 2026
Heck yeah!! I love when bands I haven’t thought or heard about in years suddenly pop into my YT recommendations. The video is 2.5 hours long, and the energy of the band didn’t waiver. Robert’s voice hasn’t changed a bit.
Can’t it please be the early 90s again cuz I think we’re all sick of the 2020s. Sigh.
