I only do this because I’m having fun
April Fool No 8
This week I’m sharing more continuous line drawings from my new series titled April Fools. As I said last week, my goal is to create 30 of these this month.
April Fool No 9
I think, starting with this little fool, I decided to mix it up a bit, and instead of laying down gouache before I started drawing, I switched to tempera paint sticks. I was given this set last year, but haven’t used them much. I thought it would be fun to play around with them and see what happened.
April Fool No 10
I got really playful and silly with this guy. He appears to be deep in thought, so shh, let’s not disturb him.

It’s always good to mix it up, and try new things because if you don’t try, how will you ever know what you like or don’t like?
I most likely will be switching back to gouache after this. I like the paint sticks, but I don’t feel they’re right for this series. The colors are darker than gouache, and the line drawing gets lost in the darkness. The point of this series, for me, is to give continuous line drawing a try.

There is so much to learn when doing continuous line drawings, and there’s more thinking involved than I normally do when painting. I have a bad habit of lifting the pen from the paper because I forget what I’m supposed to be doing. Oops!

I only do this because I’m having fun. The day I stop having fun, I’ll walk away.

What I watched this week:
The Japanese man who gets paid to 'do nothing' | BBC Global -
This man is doing amazing caregiver work by giving his time and attention to people who need him in their lives. He doesn’t prod, ask questions or be intrusive. He just lets them be who they are, and they trust him. I found it heartwarming & I need more stories like this in my life.
I was so inspired & moved by this video that I had to watch it again the next day. I wanted to be sure I didn’t miss anything. Plus, I wanted to feel overwhelmed with his gentle kindness again. It’s got the sweetest, most positive comments, which were also nice to read.
Don't PANIC - experiencing Pain is the Human Condition but so is experiencing Joy - I experienced a great deal of joy by watching her. What a lovely lady.
The Telepathy Tapes - I only learned of this series a few days ago, and I haven’t had time to listen much, but I’m fascinated with what I’m hearing so far.
Artist Insights Afonso Rocha | Jackson's Art - he said many things that resonated with me. He’s a very wise young man.
World’s Longest Ever Ski Jump (New Record) - bravo! What an amazing jump.
My husband and I finished the third season of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace on Max. Many loose ends were left untied, imo. Makes me think there will be another season coming at some point. I’m not sure if we’ll watch, if there is one. We’re both kinda on the fence, and happy to move on, but we’ll see.
Reading - I might have spoken too soon about the last book I started reading - Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Isiguro. I didn’t read what it’s about, and blindly dove into it after watching a Youtuber say it’s his favorite book. Since then I have read the description, and I don’t think it’s for me. Idk? I don’t have to return it to the library for a few days, so we’ll see if I pick it back up again before then.

I hope you having a calm, peaceful weekend. See you next week.
If you like what I post here, you can also find me on pinksky & blsky where I’m posting art daily. Please follow me there. I want to fill my feed with art, photographs, and all the beautiful things in life - because I truly believe, despite it appearing that the world has tipped upside down, there is still beauty to be seen.
If you’ve recently followed me on Blsky, and all you post is politics and the gruesome things going on, I probably won’t be following you back. I just can’t. I must protect my mental health, like a mother protects her child right now. My head isn’t in the sand, believe me. All the horror is being shoved down my throat, and there’s only so much I can allow in to have to process each day. I hope you understand. It’s not you, it’s me. Peace & love.
