The internet connection was out last week when I woke up, which relieved me of my normal admin office duties. I got to make the handmade books I talked about last week without feeling guilty for not getting my other work done. It felt like a snow day. Yay! Playtime!
I made two books, and even got some paint down on the covers before the party was over. The internet was back up, and I had to get back to my admin work. Whomp whomp.
While you're being creative, nothing is wrong. There's no such thing as a mistake, and any drivel may lead to the breakthrough.
John Cleese
I waited until the next morning to start using the journal. I ended up working on these two pages for 5 or 10 mins throughout the day. I wanted to enjoy the process, so I didn’t rush through it.
The paints I’m using are old, and have started to dry up. There are gobs of dried paint in there, which I think is perfect for creating texture in these abstracts.
This is where I stopped. I think it’s done, but I don’t know if my future self will want to add more to it later?
The final step will be to seal each page with Dorland’s wax. The weather has changed here again, and it’s been 90+F for several days. No matter what season it is, since I’m using acrylic paints, I’ll need to protect the pages from sticking together. Dorland’s wax works the best for me.
I hope you have a creative week ahead.
What I’m Reading: Klara and the Sun - a dystopian science fiction story by Kazuo Ishiguro
I’m about 1/2 way finished, and it reminds me of a book I read as a child or young teen about a mannequin in a dept store. I wish I could remember the title. I want to reread it so badly.
I just learned Klara and the Sun is going to be a movie next year with Jenna Ortega, Steve Buscemi, and Amy Adams. !!!
My artwork is available on Daily Paintworks, and eBay.

I’ve also been posting notes here on Substack in between these longer posts.
