As I mentioned a few days ago, I’m filling this notebook I made with contour, and blind contour drawings. I thought it would be fun to take it a step further, and paint these portraits. I’m not painting blindly, although that might be challenging to try, also.
I’m using gouache, chalk, pastels and whatever else I can get my hands on.
I started this book with contour drawing, but have fallen madly in love with blind contour drawing. Sometimes, seeing what I’ve drawn makes me laugh hysterically. I’m using the Skchy app for reference photos to give me some guidance while I’m drawing. The guy above really did have his eyes bugged out, and his mouth open in the photo I used..just in case you’re wondering. I know with this type of drawing it’s hard to tell.
Each sketch happens quickly in less than a minute. It’s a fun exercise, and it definitely keeps me playing in my studio. As you probably know, play is my word for the year, and my word for the month is draw. More of these crazy drawings to come. 🙂
Life must be lived as play.
