I posted the full spread of this page last week, but I wanted to show the close up. Her mouth started this drawing. The purple paint mark was already on the page, which my eye was drawn to, and I immediately thought “lips”. I drew quickly, probably in less than a minute.
Most of these pages were created quickly – a minute or two tops. I work fast, without giving my brain time to think or criticize what I’m creating.
Girl horse
The silly switch-a-roo,
which is pretty cliche,
but whatever.
It happened.
Stabilo pencil
One of my cats (Maudie) was staring at me
when I drew this one,
so I gave her cat eyes.
This one I remember creating while I was listening to Peter Draws reading The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. I used oil pastels.
Not sure if I’ll go back in and do more to this one or not. I like the unfinished “who did this and ran” vibe, so maybe not? Idk?
A work of art is never finished.
It is merely abandoned.
My blog post on Monday didn’t go out to my email subscribers. I’m not sure why or how to fix it, but I hope this one will reach you. If you want to read Monday’s post, it’s here.
What I’m reading this week:
Bees Are Sentient – fascinating article
Duane Keiser has a new art blog, which I haven’t had a chance to read yet, but will today. I’ve been following him since he started doing daily paintings 20 years ago.
I’ve also been enjoying blogs that I’m finding on Substrack, such as Heather Murray, Jennifer Loomers, and Helen Stephens. I think I first learned of the site because of Cathy Cullis, who moved her blog there a couple years ago. Substack seems to be the happening place right now, and I’m thinking of either 1. starting a blog there or 2. moving my blog there. We’ll see.
Hope you have a happy creative Wednesday. Crossing fingers that this will post to my email subscribers today.
