New! Fresh off the easel. Red Haired Girl From Texas Acrylic portrait painting Available here
Greg and I had a scare on a dirt road the other night, not the road in this photo, another road. There wasn’t a sign that said the road was impassible, and it was a county road, so it should have been maintained.
I was driving along, very slowly, and the next thing I knew it was as if we had left Kansas, and were on a tropical island somewhere, minus girls in bikinis, pretty ocean water and drinks with umbrellas. Minus anything fun, except thick beach sand. The front end of my car had sunk all the way up to the hood. Ah, of course, it made perfect sense. A road made out of beach sand in KS. Happens every day around here, since we’re so close to the ocean, and all. haha It was thick thick thick. I could barely stand up in it when I got out of the car. Crazy!!

Called AAA, but they wouldn’t come out. They have to have their trucks on pavement, they said, but they would reimburse me for a tow truck, if I wanted. While we waited for the tow truck, Greg and I dug the sand out from underneath the car with our hands. What a mess. We were so hot, sweaty and dirty. It was about 90F, and humid.

Things started to look really bad when the tow truck couldn’t come out the road, either. It was too narrow, and he’d have to back in about a mile. The truck wasn’t 4 wheel drive, so he was afraid he’d get stuck, also. Luckily, we got a super sweet driver, tho, because he walked in, and helped Greg push me out. I really don’t know what we would have done without his help. Can you believe he wasn’t going to charge us a cent for his time and trouble? We ended up giving him $50, which he accepted, and it sure made us feel better. What a sweet soul. We’ll be forever grateful. We’d probably still be out there, if it wasn’t for him.

It was dark, about 11pm when we finally got back on pavement. We had completely blown our chance of seeing the sunset, and all I could think about was Sweet Pea and Fred home alone. I’ve learned my lesson. No more dirt roads for this girl, not in my car, anyway. Greg’s got 4 wheel drive, so from now on, he’s driving. Whew!
