Side Pony oil pastel painting process shots

I’ve been enjoying using this pinkish lilac paint I mixed up, and I’ve been prepping all my substrate with it lately.

I started out by putting down a bunch of marks with the oil pastels. I was thinking about shadows and highlights as I was doing this. I didn’t use a reference photo, so I made it up as I went along.

Then I blended it in with a huge tortillon.

This is an 11×14 inch portrait on canvas board.
