Stepping outside my comfort zone

After I started this series of men drawings the other night, I said to my husband, “It’s kinda weird, but I suddenly want to draw men. I rarely do. I think that’s probably because I’m a woman, and I relate more to women than men.”

My husband opened up his sketchbook, and showed me his portraits. I had to laugh. He only has drawn men. Men who look similar to himself – beard, mustache, and glasses. He’s been drawing for a year or two on a daily basis, and he said he’s never drawn a woman. Made me pause for a second, and think about how human we are..sticking to what we know best when creating art. 

So, I’m stepping outside my comfort zone a bit here. I’m gonna be honest and say, I don’t have much knowledge about my subject matter (hahaha). I hope my ignorance doesn’t show. I’m having a blast exploring this new series, and can’t wait to make more.
