Stupid Haircut before revising
Acrylic mixed media portrait painting
I posted this painting here on my blog last week, and offered it for a low starting bid on eBay. No one bid on the painting, and while that was disappointing, I also looked at it positively..no one bought the painting? Yes!!

It opened up some avenues for me to explore. And the more I looked at the photos of the painting, the more I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Even though I initially said I wasn’t going to revise any of these old paintings, I couldn’t help myself. I HAD to revise it.
Lately I’ve been into bright yellow, I have no idea why. I noticed over the winter I kept gravitating toward the jar of yellow paint. I grabbed it once again when it came to revising this painting (don’t be surprised if it starts showing up in more of my work). I knew I wanted to change the background and make it really pop, and yellow seemed like the color to do the job. It was a bit boring before, but now I’m quite sure this painting will stand out in a room.
The title of this painting is Stupid Haircut. I had a bad experience getting my hair cut a few times, which is why I painted this portrait years ago. I thought most women could relate. “Only take off an inch..just the dead ends, please.” “Okay” 6 inches later..”oops, I might have cut it too short, and you now have bangs, and a mullet in the back. What do you think? Cute, right? Uh, well..it will grow back fast.” lol
I struggled painting in “haircut” horizontally underneath “stupid”. I tried at least 6 times, but ended up spraying it off with water each time. I couldn’t get it to look good, so I left it out. I ended up distressing, and pulling out some of the old background color while I was washing away my handwriting.
One time I had to take the painting to the kitchen sink, and scrub the letters off because it had dried, and that’s when the freshly painted yellow paint rubbed off. At first I thought, oh crap, but I think it gives the piece more depth, and interest, so I’m leaving it this way. I scrubbed some more of the paint off near the top, so it would balance out.
I liked this painting before, but I love it now. I wasn’t going to revise these old paintings, but now I’m thinking why not? There are some in that stack that I don’t like at all..maybe I can change my mind about them?
I don’t want to sell it now, (wah) but I had already scheduled the listing before I decided to revise the painting. Since you can’t delete scheduled listings on eBay, I didn’t really have a choice. I replaced the old photos with the new, and it went live last night. You can find the painting here. Prints are also available.
Next painting to get revised is this one..
Looking West
I’ll be back to show you what I do to change it. 🙂
