I’ve been taking an online poetry class from Penn State for 5 weeks now. This is one of the poems that I really enjoyed reading. For some reason, it reminded me of this Mother and Baby Boy painting I did last year, probably because of the first line. I thought it was unusual that I dressed the mother in a long gray coat, yet there are flowers growing up along the wall. I like art that you can’t explain with words.
Speaking of poetry, I started reading about e.e. cummings the other day, and found out he died in the same hospital as I was born, in North Conway, NH. Not the same year, he passed before I was born, but to think he knew that area, and had a farm there has me in a state of awe and wonder. How did I not know this?? All these years, I’ve read his poetry, and I didn’t know we have a little town in NH in common? It makes me wonder how very little I know about anything in life. sigh.
My mother died in the same hospital three years ago. It’s a small, small world. Now I want to read everything I can get my hands on about Mr. Cummings, but my poetry class marches on quickly. I have been struggling to keep up, so I’ll have to leave e.e. for when I have more time.

Something a little different for today, a girl with a bird painting! I’m having a little trouble staying with my theme of photo booth paintings, but what difference does it really make? I’m still painting..every day.
If you’re just tuning in, I’m doing the 30 Paintings in 30 Days challenge by Leslie Saeta, and Ayala Art‘s 29 Faces Challenge. I choose a theme to narrow it down even more, collaged photo booth paintings. It’s not a hard set rule, and when I get a little bored, I go off in another direction.
This painting wasn’t completed in one day. I’ve actually been working on it, off and on since February, believe it or not!! I had a hard time making it all come together for some reason. Finally, by adding the stars, it seemed to make sense to me. Now, it’s finished.

On top of doing this 30 day painting challenge, I’m in the middle of building a new website. I haven’t had one for a year now, and I’ve really missed it. But, boy, is it ever a lot of work. whew. It’s really starting to come together, tho, and I LOVE seeing all my artwork in one place. It makes me giddy!!
I’m trying to decide if I keep blogging here or redirect this link over to my new website, and merge Miz Katie with my new site. hm..
The main reason for my new website is because it has my name in the link. My real name. I’ve been debating whether to faze out “Miz Katie” now for a couple years, and use my real name for my work. But, since I’ve gone by the name Miz Katie since 2008, when I started painting full time, I don’t want to just drop it without giving people a chance to adjust to the change. I have a lot of followers who know me as Miz Katie, and it worries me that if I change the name, they might not be able to find me. Redirecting mizkatie.com to my new site would fix that, tho. hm..but then there’s my Etsy shop, and changing the title and link there. It might be too much. I’m going to lose some people in the change, I just know it.
Oh, I don’t know what I’m doing yet, but my new website looks great!! 🙂 Can’t wait to show you when I’m done.

Going From Red to Blue..YES
I’m not a drawer, I’m a painter. I don’t have the patience to draw. I don’t like drawing. The days of worrying what my drawing looks like, even though it’s going to have lots of paint over the top of it are long GONE! haaaaa YES! And, I’m sooooo happy about that. I used to stress over my drawings, and take forever on them. Now, it takes seconds.. if I even draw at all because sometimes, I don’t.
Do you remember her from a couple weeks ago, and how I said she probably wouldn’t look the same when you saw her again? Yeah, the red had to go. I’m not comfortable using it any more. I know that probably sounds weird, but I’ve had zero luck selling paintings with red in them. Now, I’m superstitious, and I don’t want to use red in my paintings. A little red is okay, but her shirt takes up a lot of the painting. Too much red for my liking.

So, I toned it down with blues. Even though blue is not one of my favorite colors, I like the painting more now. More photos soon!!
