In Japan, employees occasionally work themselves to death. It’s called Karoshi. I don’t want that to happen to anybody in my department. The trick is to take a break as soon as you see a bright light and hear dead relatives beckon.

I found the quote after titling the painting. There’s is something about the center of the painting that makes me want to walk closer to it to get a better look, so I named it Beckon. The quote struck me quite funny because that’s how I feel about painting..I’ll still be doing it on my deathbed. I suppose I am working myself to death because I never plan on retiring. I have the best job in the world. Why would I want to stop?

The painting can be hung either side up. I keep going back and forth on which way I like better, so you’ll have to decide for yourself.

Do you ever wake up with a song playing in your head, and have no idea how it got there? Today it was Complicated by Avril Lavigne. I guess I must have been dreaming, and it was playing in the background or something? I often have music playing in the background of my dreams. Sometimes, it becomes loud like in the movies, if something dramatic happens. haha I know this to be true because it’s woken me up before. 🙂 Happy Friday!

I’m been listening to ASMR videos on Youtube while I paint for a while now. It’s so calming and relaxing. If you don’t know what ASMR is you can google it or watch the video below. GentleWhispering’s channel is my favorite. Since I started an almost daily habit of listening to her, I’ve had no trouble falling asleep at night. I find that I’m more relaxed during the day, too. It works for me. Let me know what you think. 🙂 

You should wear headphones when you listen.
Wireless is enough better because you can go off and paint, and keep listening.

I was getting the photos ready for this post the other day, and accidentally posted it. Ooops!! Funny thing is I have a plugin that makes a “are you sure you want to post this” popup come up, and I have to click yes or cancel..evidently, I wanted it to post because I said yes. ha! That will teach me to try to plan ahead, and prepare for 30 paintings in 30 days. 

I haven’t had any rest, that’s my excuse. When I said I was going to take a few days off last week it turned into working 16 hour days instead. I can never take a break, I’ve decided, at least not before a new year. I revamped my website with new banners, and I set up a shop here with a shopping cart, and the whole nine yards. That took me almost an entire day just figuring out which shopping cart worked best. Woocommerce is the one I went with.

It took quite a bit of tweaking the code to get it all setup, and running smoothly. Then, I had the tedious task of listing a bunch of paintings. I have over 150 paintings in my shop now. Can I just say, I’m beat? So much for time off. haha I was completely zoned out there a few times, and haven’t had time to check for errors, so there could be many. If you have any problems let me know. 

I don’t have many paintings painted ahead for 30/30 this time. I’ve been too busy , but it’s okay. After having several studio days off, I’m ready to get covered in paint again.

Day 1 of 30 in 30

Happy New Year, everyone! I’m kicking off 2015 with my first larger painting in my floral series. This is a mixed media collage painting. Lots of layers, and texture painted impasto style with knives.

This month I’ll be posting a mixture of sizes. I ordered 100 6×6 hardboard panels from Blick last week, so I have plenty for the challenge. I’ll do what I can to stick in a few larger paintings here and there during the month when I have time, too. Plus, I have a few 4×4 black and white oil landscapes that I’m working on. It should be an interesting month. 

Day 1 = done. Wish me luck!! Here we go!!

I shipped a painting off to Australia, and one to Canada today. Even though I’ve been selling art online since hm..2002? I don’t remember the exact year, but it was before Paypal was around, and I had to wait to get a personal check or money order to show up in the mail. Anyway, still..all these years later, selling my work NEVER gets old. It’s especially thrilling when I ship a painting outside the USA. 🙂
