The paper I line my worktable with was getting pretty crusty with hardened paint. I love the look, but the paper was starting to stick to the table, making a huge mess for me to clean, which defeated the purpose of lining the tables. I had to find a quick solution, so I switched out the paper with black trash bags.
I taped it all down with packing tape along the edges, and underneath the countertop. So far, so good. I wanted to test it out before writing about it, so it’s been 3 or 4 weeks now. Nothing has shifted or torn. It keeps the tables clean, and paintings aren’t sticking to the bags, like they did to paper.
I know you can buy expensive table liners through different art suppliers, but I try to be as thrifty as possible on things that don’t really matter in my studio. I’d rather spend the money on paint and canvas because I think materials are important. Does it really matter if I line my tables with $75 liners or trash bags? Eh, not to me! If I asked my buyers, I think they’d prefer higher quality materials over table liners, also.
