It was a royal pain in the butt. This painting gave me so much grief. lol It took me several days to complete..like about a week. Grr. There are many layers of paint on this one because I didn’t like it, and kept trying different things. I actually painted over it with black paint at one point because it had become too frustrating to deal with. The next morning, I had a change of heart, and started scraping off the black paint. Some of the original painting could be saved, some could not. 
 
I like the flower in her hair. 

It’s not polite to ask an artist to lower the price on a painting

I have received numerous messages about reducing the price of this painting since I first listed it on Etsy. I just added this little note to the end of the Etsy listing to publicly address the situation…

“Oh, Sweet Sunday is one of my favorite paintings, so please please don’t write me and ask if I’ll lower the price. The price on this painting will never be lowered because it’s at the absolute lowest I can go. I would rather keep it for myself, than sell it any cheaper. Truthfully, it’s a bit insulting to be asked. Remember, I’ll have to let go of an awesome painting when you purchase it. It will hang forever on your wall, but I will never see it again. That, plus, I worked a tremendous amount of time on it. It’s worth every penny of the price for an original, one-of-a-kind painting like this. If you don’t agree, that’s fine, but please don’t write me for a price reduction. Thank you.”

I hope it doesn’t sound rude, but frankly, it’s not polite to ask an artist to lower the price on a painting. Do people ask a barber to lower the price of a hair cut? No. How about a beauty salon when they’re getting their nails done? Nope. How about when they buy drugs at the drugstore? I don’t think so. Food at the supermarket? Absolutely not. So, why do they think they can ask me? Artists typically make far less money than any other profession, but we’re expected to lower our prices and settle for less? Most of us are living below poverty level as it is, yet people think nothing of asking us to live on even less. Is that fair? I don’t think so.
 
If you’re an artist who is lowering your prices when someone asks you to, stop it! Please! Do not be afraid to say no. xoxo

I’m sick..a double ear infection, which I can’t take antibiotics for..long story that I don’t want to go into. It will go away without meds. It just takes a while, and I’ll probably have more hearing loss. gah. Just what I need. I bet I can still hear the dog barking across the street ALL the day, tho. And, I bet I will still hear my LOUD music drowning out the dog. ha haaa Anyway, I’m keeping my nose to the grindstone, so I don’t have time to think or complain too much about my ear pain. I’ve added a bunch of new stuff to my shop if you want to take a look.

I know this painting was a favorite to some who read my blog, so I figured I’d tell you to stop saving your pennies. It’s already off to its new home. There’s only one original, and once it’s gone, it’s gone forever. You can order prints now, tho. I will be painting it again, for the 4th time, but next time it will be different, of course. I’m thinking sage green background, and orange sweater, but you never know what will happen once I have brush in hand. Or..maybe a palette knife this time!! Oooh, yeah!! 🙂 
 
I’ll be back when I’m feeling up to writing and stuff.

It’s true. I have been working my butt off. Many new paintings already in my shop, and several more will be listed in the next week. I can’t seem to stop. I don’t wanna stop! I won’t stop!!! Well, truthfully, I don’t have anything else to do. haha It’s hot, humid and when it gets like this, all I want to do is paint to forget I can’t do anything else. Does that even make sense? hm..I don’t know. 
 
Anyway, I hope you take a look at my offerings..there are lots of new faces, some are quite diverse. Perhaps you’ll find something you’d like to hang on your wall. It’s a great time of year to treat yourself..now while there aren’t any holidays coming up where you have to buy for other people. Keep that in mind. 😉
