A couple weeks ago the Arrtx company reached out to me, and asked if they could send me a set of their oil pastels to try. I agreed to write a blog post in exchange. What I’m going to write here today is my honest opinion about my experience using these oil pastels.
First off – the box is HUGE because there are 72 colors in this set. I was instantly blown away by all the color choices I would get to work with. Other sets I have don’t have this range of color.
It’s simply gorgeous.
I mean..look at these oil pastels.
After opening the box, and seeing these oil pastels, I couldn’t wait to dig in, and try them out.
I decided to work with these oil pastels for roughly 5 hours over the span of the evening to get a good feel for how they work. I chose to use toned drawing paper as my substrate for these portraits.
I’m happy to say, I absolutely love these oil pastels. I was able to blend, layer, and scratch into these pastels with ease – all the things that are advertised on the box. I didn’t have to struggle, like I do with other brands.
When I wanted to layer on colors, I found it very easy to do so. When I wanted to blend colors together with a tortillon, I was able to blend with ease. These pastels were a joy to work with, and I highly recommend them to other oil pastel artists. I give them a solid 5 out of 5 stars.
I tried out many of the colors, and all seemed consistent as far as how they go down on the paper. I didn’t find any that were dry and crumbly or too oily. The colors are bold, and highly pigmented.
It didn’t matter if I wanted a flatter, blended out, smoother portrait or one with thicker layers. As you can see in the photos, either style is an option with these Arttx soft oil pastels, which is exactly what I’ve been searching to find.
Overall, it was a fun drawing experience, and these oils pastels will definitely be something I purchase in the future. I want to kindly thank Arrtx, and Karin for sending me these oil pastels. What an awesome gift! I couldn’t be more pleased. After using these Arrtx soft oil pastels, I do believe this will be the brand I reach for when I draw in the future. At this time, these Arrtx oil pastels are at number 1 on my list, and I’m not just saying that because they were free. They truly are amazing.
