Little boy portrait painting
mixed media gouache & watercolor paint
in my art journal
I’ve probably told this story here before, but the last time I saw one of my art journals it was in a big cottonwood tree in Oklahoma. I chucked it up there about 20ish years ago, and never went back to get it.
It was out in the middle of nowhere, so most likely it got destroyed by the weather. In my mind’s eye, it’s still up there, swaying in a gentle breeze, the sun is always shining, and it’s living its best life. lol
I have no idea what was in that journal. We didn’t have digital cameras or camera phones at that time, so I don’t have photos of it.
That’s the only art journal I parted ways with like that, if I remember right. But back then, I used to leave my art all over the place on purpose – in library books, on the city bus benches, pinned on public bulletin boards..anywhere that I thought someone might find it, and take it home. Art was a gift I liked giving to strangers.
I was really into geocaching (can’t believe it’s still a thing), and would go searching for little treasures boxes, so I could leave mini paintings behind. Sometimes I would go back to check to see if my paintings had been taken. I never found one again, so people must have liked them or maybe my art blew off in the wind somewhere? I’ll never know for sure.
It was so fun to be an artist back then, sneaking around leaving little gifts behind wherever I went. Makes me miss the old days.
