Manners Mean Nothing
Day 9 of 30 in 30
This is an art journal page, and isn’t for sale..yet. However, I might do something I’ve never done before, and offer the entire book for sale when I’m finished. I have toyed with this idea for many years now, but never have gone through with it.
I haven’t decided yet if I can let the book go once it’s finished. We’ll see how attached I grow to it in the meantime. My art journals feel sacred, and so personal to me, the thought of never seeing it again just might be too much to bear. We’ll see.
If I counted correctly, there will be a total of 100 paintings in the book once I’m finished. It’s sorta my (loosely made) new year’s resolution to get the book finished by the end of April, and to do that, I need to work in it nearly every day until then. It’s a brand new book, so 100 pages by April 30th might be a lofty goal when I only have 5 completed. I have it open on my work table right now, so when I walk in my studio, it’s pretty much the first thing I see. It will be hard to ignore it this way.
PS: I’ve filmed the process of every painting so far in this book, but you’ll have to subscribe to my youtube channel to know when I post it. I have many videos lined up in my queue now to edit, so it will be sometime in Feb or March.
I have some very exciting news that I’ll be announcing soon. A huge opportunity fell in my lap earlier this week. I’m not sure if it’s okay to talk about it yet, but it’s HUGE. I keep pinching myself because I can’t believe it. Soon. I will tell you alllll about it. Very soon. Stay tuned.

Big Red Fred
I haven’t posted photos of Fred in a long while because he’s been staying downstairs. It’s too hot and stuffy up here in the studio these days, but the downstairs is nice and cool. I’m thinking of taking this old couch out to the curb in a couple weeks, and replacing it with a recliner. Our city yard sale day is coming up soon, and I’m hoping I can find a new chair. Poor Fred. His couch potato days may be over. :/ Sorry, Buddy, but this couch has got to be the most uncomfortable piece of furniture I’ve ever owned. Seriously. It’s got to go.
I took this photo a few days ago. We’ve had a stormy weekend. Rain, wind, hail, and threats of tornadoes continue today.
Progress always involves risk; you can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.
F.W. Dupee
I woke up early, really early, like before 5am early. Killer backache. :/ I’m better now, but I had to get up, and move around. I’m still plugging away at this boy in oils. I fixed his eyes and the shadow on his neck this morning. I think I messed his nose up in the process, but it’s an easy fix. I’m not sure where I’m going with it next. The reference photo I’m using is black and white, so I’m making up his skin color as I go along. Sometimes, I think I nail it, but other times..eh. It’s going to take a while. When it’s finished I’ll gather all the progress shots together into one post.

art journal page in acrylic
I took this photo about a week ago, and I’m still plugging away at these little oil paintings. One thing I’m finding with working in oils is that I have a harder time knowing when the painting is finished. I keep tweaking this and that. I need to learn when enough is enough, and stop.
Oh, how I love the richness of color in oils. I look at my acrylic paintings, and all I see is how dull they look.
still prepping old books.
it’s endless.

Busted peeper squirrel
He startled me when I walked into my office, and saw him staring back at me. Look at how relaxed he looks with his leg dangling down like that. Cheeky.
